Frequently Asked Questions

Educational therapy is a type of therapy that helps individuals who are struggling with learning, academic, or behavioral issues. It is a comprehensive approach that combines educational and therapeutic techniques to help individuals overcome their difficulties and educational success. A key part of the educational therapy process is identifying a child strengths and weaknesses and creating a personalized learning plan to address their specific needs. Therapists may also work collaboratively with other professionals, such as teachers, psychologists, and speech-language pathologists, to provide a holistic approach to a child's needs.

Educational therapy is often one component of a broader treatment plan for individuals with learning challenges. The treatment plan aims to address the individual's unique needs and help them overcome their difficulties in learning and academic performance. Your therapist can help you curate your create a treatment alliance best to serve the needs of you and your kiddo!

A mental health professional (such as a pediatric psychologist) can help concerns around anxiety, depression, trauma, eating disorders, ADHD, behavioral challenges, OCD, grief/loss.

This happens. The results of the school’s evaluation may be different than your child’s medical diagnosis. It’s also important to remember that school is NOT the final say on your child’s potential. They may offer very little support to your child, underestimate their abilities, or disagree with you on what support your child needs. You will probably need to advocate for the services and support you believe your child needs.

There isn’t one set way that an IEP meeting is run, but generally it involves everyone on the IEP team reviewing your child’s goals, progress, and sharing ideas and suggestions on what supports or accommodations may be helpful to accomplish those goals.

It’s required that the school staff go over every section of the IEP with you and explain every part. This is only a draft, because the IEP may change based on what’s discussed in the meeting. You do not have to sign or agree to the IEP at the IEP meeting. If you don’t like the IEP, you may not have to agree to it at all.
