About Texas Young Autism Project - Houston
TYAP (tee•ap) is the original and first Applied Behavior Analysis treatment program for children with Autism in Texas. It began when Dr. Gerald Harris saw the increasing numbers of children in the Houston area who were being identified with Autistic Disorder and knew that there were no treatment services available for them. Dr. Harris had focused his Clinical Psychology practice on helping children in need and understood the importance of helping this underserved community. A family support group had formed in Houston, Families for Effective Autism Treatment (FEAT), and coordinated with Dr. Harris and Dr. O. Ivar Lovaas to establish an ABA treatment program for children with Autism in Houston.
