My son has been receiving services here since he was 1 and he is now 3 yrs old. He receives speech OT and now PT. I am so happy we choose WTS he has made tremendous growth. The staff is super friendly and you get the sense that they genuinely care about you and your children. You are fully informed of progress and given resources to use at home with your child. They manage to maintain a good balance of being understanding and accommodating but still sticking to rules that allow them to run a well-oiled machine. Donna Klein does wonders in selecting professional passionate and most importantly effective therapists. Thank you WTS for great communication understanding and working with my son. We are grateful

I definitely wouldnt recommend westchester therapy solutions to anyone. My daughter was evaluated through early intervention and I was given this location as it was the only place that had availability. It was 45 minutes away from my home. I found a local therapist who was willing to take on my daughters case. I called and canceled with them. A few days later I get a call from my case worker with early intervention and I was informed that Jamie at Westchester therapy solutions had tampered with my daughters case. I had called and spoke to Jamie directly and she told me it was a favor that she did for me and my daughter when she assigned us a spot at there location. Last I checked that was her job. She didnt do me or my child any favors. After that conversation I had told her to not contact me again regarding this and for her to fix her mistakes. I then get a call from Donna Klein. She called me just to tell me my case worker with early intervention didnt know how to do her job and thats why I dont have the services I need for my child. She would not let me say a single word. She didnt care one bit that she has a worker who was rude because she was just as rude. Please stay away from this place. When I asked Donna how will Jamie be reprimanded for her actions and speaking to me the way she did Donna flat out said her worker wasnt in the wrong and its a stressful situation. Excuse me Shes in a stressful situation because she tampered with my childs file. Westchester County also had to call them to let them know they overstepped their boundaries. I plan on taking this a step further and seeking and lawyer as well as contacting the department of health because this business shouldnt be open when they begin to cause harm on a child by delaying resources because they are mad a client didnt stick with them. Its a shame that as a mother I try to do what is best for my child and a place like this that is suppose to help caused more harm. Please do more research before scheduling with them.

This place is amazing We got approved speech through EI two years ago when my little girl was 2 had barely 5 words. Thankfully I found WTS and it has been our second home between speech OT PT every week. They have the best equipment toysgames really get those little minds bodys working. I cannot recommend this place enough. We had our 2nd year CPSE meeting yesterday she is no longer eligible for speech as she has improved tremendously is actually ahead of herself now. We are so proud of her never thought this day would come. It is all thanks to WTS. Thankfully she was approved for another year of OT PT we are so glad we dont have to say goodbye just yet.

Finally We have been looking for an OT in Westchester with a full gym that can handle our sensory seeking 9 year old while accommodating our schedule. Rick is an amazing knowledgeable energetic OT that clicked with our son from minute one. We have been so pleased with the results that we decided to add in a speech therapy session with Mary. Mary is amazing as well She listened to our concerns and goals and was able to keep our son engaged and focused throughout the session. I have seen such a change in my son - behavior wise and academic wise - his teachers are amazed and have been commenting on how well he has been doing. The best part He loves going He actually asks when his next sessions are is genuinely happy to be there and is proud of his hard work. I feel blessed to have found Westchester Therapy Solutions.

Absolutely amazing My son 4 and daughter 18 months both get OT here and LOVE it. We couldnt be more happy. The facility is great and provides enticing equipment to engage the kids. There is very diverse toys and equipment to allow new experiences frequently. The staff is very friendly. Our OT Simone is the best. She works to get to know your kid and help them grow and improve. Her recommendations have been invaluable and improved our lives so much. We have been to other therapists but this has by far been our best experience.

Westchester Therapy Solutions has been an incredible support system for my family. My daughter started getting OT services at 6 months and she is currently receiving OT PT and Speech there. She has made tremendous progress and I owe so much of that to WTS. All of the therapists are wonderful helpful and beyond patient. I know that every time we walk in we will be greeted with a smile and my daughter feels at ease. I feel so fortunate to be a part of their community and would highly recommend WTS to any families looking for some support.

Westchester Therapy Solutions is AMAZINGOur son has been receiving PT at WTS for over 2 years and we could not be happier. Our PT is absolutely amazing and has worked wonders with our son He has made such incredible progress and he enjoys his sessions he thinks its a playdate It is obvious that our therapist loves what she does. She always goes above and beyond to ensure that our son is progress. She explains carry-over activities for us to do at home and has been a huge advocate for our son during Early Intervention and CPSE meetings.Over the past 2 years I have observed that the WTS therapists are always smiling and engaged in their sessions. At the end of the sessions the therapists talk with the parents about what was done during the session and make suggestions on what to work on at home to continue progress. The owner Donna is on-site and ensures that things are always running smoothly. Donna is always checking in with parents to see how their kids are doing and often holds workshops for the parents. I attended one of the sensory workshops and it was very helpfulThe facility itself is clean safe spacious and has a lot of equipment. There is a nice waiting room with a large viewing window so you can observe your child I find it helpful to watch the exercises. There are also toys and books to keep siblings occupied. The building that houses WTS has ample parking a large cafe at the front and several bathrooms.There are usually several therapy sessions running concurrently which affords the children opportunities to socialize and engage in teamwork while they are improving their motor skills. I love hearing my sons laughter while he is playing games with the other kids the therapists always seem to play the most fun gamesThe front office staff is so friendly and helpful They really works hard to give parents the session days and times that work with their schedules.I did a significant amount of research before I chose WTS and I could not be happier with my decision This is hands down the best childrens therapy facility in Westchester

Speech therapy is almost always recommended for autistic children since many people with autism have difficulty with social communication. Even if a child is very verbal and says a lot of words, they might need to work on communication skills like:
- responding to questions
- starting or ending conversation
- changing conversation topics
- using gestures like pointing
- understanding other people's body language
Speech therapy is a big focus in early intervention for autistic children and is usually the starting place for recently diagnosed kids. There is a critical period in the brain for language development and so, it's really important to teach language and communication skills as early as possible, especially if there are any delays in that area. Your child will learn effective ways to communicate which will help them grow into more independent and confident individuals.
It might be obvious when a child struggles with speaking —they are very quiet, say only a few words, or don't speak at all.

The goal of speech therapy is to help your child communicate effectively with other people across all environments. This may take the form of using gestures, simple signs, verbal speech, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
Some other common things speech therapists can help with:
- Nonverbal skills, such as signs or gestures
- Forming speech in a clearer way
- Communicating thoughts and feelings clearly
- Understanding and responding to questions
- Discerning facial expressions and their corresponding emotions
- Noticing and understanding body language
- Feeding and swallowing
- Stuttering
“Early Intervention” might be the provider’s way of describing services that they provide to babies or young children. However, it might also indicate that the provider is a vendor for your state’s publicly funded program. This means the services with this provider might be covered by your state!
The first step in accessing these free services from your state is to get an evaluation. The evaluation will help the state determine what services your child qualifies for, if any. You can find your state’s local EI program by clicking here.
When you contact your local center, say “I have concerns about my child’s development and I would like to have my child evaluated to find out if they are eligible for early intervention services.” They will ask screening questions and arrange for an evaluation, which is provided for free.
Here are a few alternative options to consider:
- Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT): CBT helps by identifying and changing unhelpful thoughts and behaviors. It's useful for those dealing with social anxiety or difficulties. CBT addresses cognitive patterns and provides strategies to manage social challenges.
- Group therapy: Group therapy offers a supportive space where individuals can practice social skills. They can feedback from peers and a therapist. It allows interaction with others who understand and learn from each other.
- Play-based interventions: Play therapy or play-based interventions work well for younger children or those who learn through experiences. Play activities target specific social skills like turn-taking and problem-solving in a safe and engaging setting.
The occupational therapy process includes an OT evaluation before care starts. Here are the four steps your family can expect when starting occupational therapy:
- Complete OT evaluation. An occupational therapist first identifies your child’s strengths and needs through a thorough OT evaluation, also known as an OT assessment or screening. You’ll answer questions about your child’s skills, and your child will most likely demonstrate their skills via hands-on activities with the therapist. Evaluations can last 30 minutes to a few hours.
- Approve OT plan. The therapist develops a care plan with individualized goals and customized interventions based on your child’s needs. You can also share any specific goals or concerns before approving the OT plan.
- Start therapy sessions. The therapist works directly with your child and your family, using various strategies and exercises to systematically improve areas of limitations and to build upon a child’s strengths. Some exercises your child might participate in are animal walks, obstacle courses, and therapy swing activities. Your family may learn strategies for supporting your child’s individualized needs at home, such as ways of supporting emotional regulation and sensory processing. The therapist may also recommend tools and techniques to use at home, in the community, or in the classroom to help your child succeed.
- Monitor your child’s progress. Parents and caregivers can expect ongoing progress monitoring and communication to ensure the child is achieving their short and long-term goals.
Occupational therapy can also be provided virtually via telemedicine. Virtual therapy is a great option for families in rural areas who may not have access to in-person services, or for families who prefer to have therapy in their child’s home.
Virtual OT allows the opportunity for increased caregiver participation and understanding of a child’s strengths, areas of improvement, and generalization of skills in the child’s home environment. Virtual therapy also provides increased opportunities for caregiver and family education to support the child and the family based on each family’s needs.
Once you find a quality physical therapist you want to work with, here are a few things you need to know:
- There will be an evaluation. First, you can expect an assessment to identify your child’s areas of strength and needs. A physical therapy evaluation usually lasts 30 minutes.
- You’ll review and approve the care plan. The physical therapist will create a care plan, also known as a plan of care (POC), outlining the goals and strategies. They will review this with you and your care team before moving forward with therapy sessions.
- Physical therapy sessions will be fun. PT with children is designed to be enjoyable. The therapist will use strategies and exercises based on your child’s needs. Exercises might involve playing on large stability balls, obstacle courses, movement equipment, stretches, and other hands-on activities.
- Expect home exercises. Physical therapists commonly assign exercises to work on at home. Doing these exercises with your child outside therapy sessions can improve your child’s overall progress.
