From the moment my children and I walked in we were hardly acknowledged. When someone did come out who eventually we learned he was the PA on duty he mistook us for another family never introducing himself or checking out arm band. Triage staff was unfriendly and was rather mute and uninviting. When we were called back only one of my children received treatment but I was there for both children experiencing same symptoms. Due to the time of the day I came to wellstar because of non referrals in times past I wouldnt normally have come and after this experience it has truly fortified my interest and confidence in Emory Healthcare and CHOA in atlanta. I will not be back to visit wellstar for any care of mine or my family. The quality service that you receive and the quality of treatment with everyone everytime is worth the extra drive and time to Atlanta This experience was very short of top quality care. The entire staff didnt reflect wellstar creed very well. To have spent 5 hours in the ER no treatment more than a steroid pill and breathing treatment for only 1 child until I advocated for the other no treatment plan going forward. Thats a set up for future disaster and a bandaid behind the reason for visit. Its clear their interest lie in patching you up in their eye sight and sending you on your way to figure the rest out. Sad.
I was so nervous about having my 3rd c - section done at this hospital due to all the bad reviews and hate it gets. Im 5 days postpartum and I can honestly say this c section was way more comfortable then the first 2 I had at Fayette piedmont. The entire staff is accommodating and caring. The process was smooth and quick. The rooms were big and clean. My anesthesiologist Ginger was amazing thank god for her. My nurses Sandra Bri were so kind and attentive. My doctor Krepps was fantastic. Im so grateful for everyone at this hospital that made my stay so comfortable. Thank you Griffin Wellstar
The worst experience of my life.. was in accident in March 2023 person ran light and big insertion in griffin hit me and truck flipped. My jeep was hit almost head on and pole. I was taken to this hospital by ambulance. I was busted up Bruised bleeding etc. Once I got there I was hallway waiting to go in room emergency. The instructed the EMT to go get a wheelchair put me in off the cot. Then I was not taken to a room but put in outside waiting room. In middle people who clearly admitted to having covid.hostile environment in the area as well. Had not seen doctor or nurse yet. Injuries very visible to naked eye were not being treated. This where I sat. After hour or so nurse comes out to ask me very personal private info in the area I was sitting. I asked why am I still here she claimed no rooms. I sent my son to walk back there and look. Empty rooms not cleaned. Pics. Later comes with pain pill to give me.not seen doctor yet.furious at the treatment recieved. I left dont you know 2 days later I recieved 13k bill from an attorney of hospital. For what No treatment. No room. No results. No meds. No Rx and I didnt sign anything..The staff was rude all of them. And no help. I feel for the people of th is town who have rely on this hospital for treatment. If you can drive further to another.. your life may depend on it.
If I could give a negative or 0 stars for the Emergency Dept. I would do it without hesitation To bring in a 2 yr old that had a seizure blue lips high pulse rate and high fever and you dont run any tests dont check the ears dont listen to the heart or lungs with a stethoscope because you the doctor dont want to wake the child up and you are going to prescribe antibiotics and discharge Why are you blindly prescribing meds And this is on a night that the lobby is empty The standard of care here is so disappointing
I recently gave birth for the first time at Wellstar Spaulding 3 weeks ago it was everything short of amazing. I had a scheduled induction and from the moment I arrived until the moment I got discharged everyone was caring and very informative. My nurses doctors and everyone else I encountered were amazing. You can tell everyone cared for their job and they all definitely made my labor experience easier. I would definitely use wellstar spaulding in the future.
I hope the right person sees this. This review is for my very unpleasant visit today in the newborn outpatient department with Patricia. I usually dont make reviews but this has to be made in hopes that it wont happen to anyone again. My service today was horrible I understand waiting because theres others before me being seen but upon being serviced it was clear that YOU were the reason for the delay. I get and appreciate taking the time to ensure the information on the paperwork is correct but you pricked my newborn for the FIRST time and tried to place it on the proper documentation that would clearly be a fail for any newborn thats in distress. Then you got the bright idea to prick her for the SECOND time only to be successful at something you could have done the first time around. This is a testing that is easily life or death that shouldnt be thought of as simple or minor nor taken lightly. Oh and I was late to my own doctors appointment that was nearby after waiting 2 hours for this service. To me it was lack of care and urgency.Im unsure if you had a rough day or if you are new but this isnt McDonalds this is a field where smart decisions should be made on the first go around. So glad my newborn and I do not have to revisit because I certainly would NOT but please do better for the newborns that you see in the future.- signed a distressed newborn motherSN the labor and delivery at the hospital was amazing and pretty much perfect kudos to that whole office and department 10 stars
This was a terrible experience. Was sent from the Wellstar in Jackson because I had a high D dimer over 1000 and was going to get an ultrasound and CT for a possible DVT since Jackson didnt have a tech. I arrived at 2 AM. There were two people in the waiting room with me. At 630 AM I still had not seen the doctor and was sitting in the waiting room in severe pain with an IV in my arm and no pain medicine . I finally got fed up and told them I was leaving. I took a Uber straight to Henry Piedmont got an ultrasound CT and was in and out within two hours with a proper diagnosis. No one at Piedmont was surprised at my experience. Piedmont had at least 30 people in the waiting room and four ambulances in the ER bay and still saw me timely and prioritized my pain. I will never ever go to Wellstar again. Terrible time management and no respect for their patients time or illness. They literally expect you to sit there for hours being exposed to God knows what coming through there. Have a little more respect for your patients and learn better time management and how to prioritize. The reviews here are 100 true
I just want to take the time to give Mrs. Summer the intake RN in the emergency room her flowers. I took my son to the ER for chest pains she was very empathetic and knowledgeable. Summer showed genuine interest and compassion for the well being of many son. It is not everyday that you get to see a nurse that really puts in this levers of effort to help you with your health issues. Thank you Mrs. Summer. We will not forget the way you made us feel and how you treated us.
When we walked into the ER we noticed several patients sitting in the waiting area with an IV running. The only staff at the desk was the security officer and the administrative personnel. The patients were monitoring their own IV. The family members were going to the desk to let the admin staff know that the IV bags were empty. When the admin staff called us to the desk she obtained our info to check us in. There was a pin pad where we were required to put several signatures. However there was no way to really know what you were signing. The admin staff simply summarized what she saw on HER screen and asked us to sign the pin pad. Then she gave us a piece of paper with a phone number on it to call and complete the check in process over the phone. When did the check in process come to this This was the most unorganized Ive ever seen an ER. So basically the sick patients or their family is doing the work of the staff.Of course we were called to the back and also received an IV only to be sent back to the waiting area. Upon discharge we were told to return in 2 days if still having pain. Sure enough we had to return. This time there was a different ER doctor when we returned. He had no idea why the previous ER doctor would tell us to return in 2 days. This hospital needs to get it together because they are living up to all the negative comments.
Had a very great experience at wellstar. It was my first time giving birth and I delivered my 2 month old baby here. The nurses were friendly and helped me understand the process I was to go through and was there for me every step of the way. My delivery was quick and painless. I gained a lot of knowledge and insight about caring for my baby during my stay. I would definitely come here again if I were to ever have another baby. You could really tell they cared about me as a patient and a new mother.
DO NOT COME HERE. Bedbug in the bathroom. They missed a uti and said METRONIDAZOLE would treat it which is false.. I go in for nausea and dehydration they...

Frequently Asked Questions
Speech therapy is almost always recommended for autistic children since many people with autism have difficulty with social communication. Even if a child is very verbal and says a lot of words, they might need to work on communication skills like:
- responding to questions
- starting or ending conversation
- changing conversation topics
- using gestures like pointing
- understanding other people's body language
Speech therapy is a big focus in early intervention for autistic children and is usually the starting place for recently diagnosed kids. There is a critical period in the brain for language development and so, it's really important to teach language and communication skills as early as possible, especially if there are any delays in that area. Your child will learn effective ways to communicate which will help them grow into more independent and confident individuals.
It might be obvious when a child struggles with speaking —they are very quiet, say only a few words, or don't speak at all.
Spot speech and language delays like a doctor here.
The goal of speech therapy is to help your child communicate effectively with other people across all environments. This may take the form of using gestures, simple signs, verbal speech, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
Some other common things speech therapists can help with:
- Nonverbal skills, such as signs or gestures
- Forming speech in a clearer way
- Communicating thoughts and feelings clearly
- Understanding and responding to questions
- Discerning facial expressions and their corresponding emotions
- Noticing and understanding body language
- Feeding and swallowing
- Stuttering
The occupational therapy process includes an OT evaluation before care starts. Here are the four steps your family can expect when starting occupational therapy:
- Complete OT evaluation. An occupational therapist first identifies your child’s strengths and needs through a thorough OT evaluation, also known as an OT assessment or screening. You’ll answer questions about your child’s skills, and your child will most likely demonstrate their skills via hands-on activities with the therapist. Evaluations can last 30 minutes to a few hours.
- Approve OT plan. The therapist develops a care plan with individualized goals and customized interventions based on your child’s needs. You can also share any specific goals or concerns before approving the OT plan.
- Start therapy sessions. The therapist works directly with your child and your family, using various strategies and exercises to systematically improve areas of limitations and to build upon a child’s strengths. Some exercises your child might participate in are animal walks, obstacle courses, and therapy swing activities. Your family may learn strategies for supporting your child’s individualized needs at home, such as ways of supporting emotional regulation and sensory processing. The therapist may also recommend tools and techniques to use at home, in the community, or in the classroom to help your child succeed.
- Monitor your child’s progress. Parents and caregivers can expect ongoing progress monitoring and communication to ensure the child is achieving their short and long-term goals.
Occupational therapy can also be provided virtually via telemedicine. Virtual therapy is a great option for families in rural areas who may not have access to in-person services, or for families who prefer to have therapy in their child’s home.
Virtual OT allows the opportunity for increased caregiver participation and understanding of a child’s strengths, areas of improvement, and generalization of skills in the child’s home environment. Virtual therapy also provides increased opportunities for caregiver and family education to support the child and the family based on each family’s needs.
Once you find a quality physical therapist you want to work with, here are a few things you need to know:
- There will be an evaluation. First, you can expect an assessment to identify your child’s areas of strength and needs. A physical therapy evaluation usually lasts 30 minutes.
- You’ll review and approve the care plan. The physical therapist will create a care plan, also known as a plan of care (POC), outlining the goals and strategies. They will review this with you and your care team before moving forward with therapy sessions.
- Physical therapy sessions will be fun. PT with children is designed to be enjoyable. The therapist will use strategies and exercises based on your child’s needs. Exercises might involve playing on large stability balls, obstacle courses, movement equipment, stretches, and other hands-on activities.
- Expect home exercises. Physical therapists commonly assign exercises to work on at home. Doing these exercises with your child outside therapy sessions can improve your child’s overall progress.
Yes! Most providers offer physical therapy in their offices or a clinical setting, but many are offering at-home options. Virtual options have become more popular in recent years. You might facilitate care with the guidance of the physical therapist.
Pediatric physical therapy is considered safe and should not hurt. Autistic children spend their time in PT moving and exploring their environment. If you are concerned about your child experiencing pain during certain exercises, especially if they may struggle to communicate and advocate for modifications, speak with their physical therapist about your concerns.
