About Washington Assistive Technology Act Program
WATAP helps point the way to assistive technology (AT) solutions. We serve people of any age across WA State who are seeking tools to make everyday tasks easier or possible. Our device demonstration and short term lending programs allow individuals, their family, and support networks to try out devices before buying them. WATAP partners with community based organization that offer alternative ways for people to acquire the AT they need including low interest financial loans, and redistribution of gently used devices. WATAP provide professional training on AT devices and service delivery, and technical assistance to agencies developing AT programs or services. Through public awareness activities around the state, WATAP educates individuals about assistive technology options to live, learn, work, and play with greater independence.
WATAP is located at the University of Washington Center for Technology and Disability Studies (UWCTDS), within the Center for Human Development and Disability (CHDD). Our work is supported by a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Community Living, and other funding sources.
