I was a patient at Highline in May and June this year. I settled in to my room and very quickly became comfortable because of the wonderful staff each and everyone of them. I was humbled by their kindness. The physical therapy staff worked wonders in getting me walking and feeling so much better every day. The entire staff were so efficient and attentive. Thank you Highline. You are wonderful.Barbara Stokeld

They have fabulous therapists When I first arrived there I was a broken mess barely able to sit up and certainly unable to walk. When I left I could walk with a walker dress myself use a toilet instead of a diaper and generally about as close to normal as they could get me. And the nursing staff was also first-rate. I owe them all a lot

This not the place to send your love one as they constantly give you the wrong meals dont answer call buttons leave you hooked up to machines for hours on end dont give you the right medications I had been here for an infection I have found things like overnight staff not changing the antibiotics I was on correctly so that they leaked all over me instead of going into my blood stream like they are suppose too that could of have given someone a worst infection. This review is being written because this writer spoke up constantly however was ignored and thats scary. There are other places that will take care of your loved ones.

This place is a joke Staff never returns calls and my mom does not get the care she deserves. They wont help her with simple hygiene on non showers wont help her brush her teeth and my mom is scared to push her button for help because her CNA tells her she calls too much. Ive tried having care conferences with her social worker there and they say theyll do something but they NEVER follow through. Ive made so many complaints to the facility the ombudsman and the state of Colorado but nothing has changed. No air conditioning and it is miserable to go visit my loved one in the summer. Do NOT send your loved one here if you have a choice.

I placed my mother here after foot surgery. MISTAKE Everyone is nice but its as if they have never done this job before. She had an IV antibiotic and they couldnt make one phone call to figure out when to stop giving it to her. The food is disgusting And they didnt realize she wasnt ordering an entree and just let her go without. Sad

After a a brief hospital stay from a fall my husband received two weeks of PTOT in a safe and comfortable environment at Highline Rehab. The admissions coordinator Anita Mosley PA Michael Claudia and all of the staff members involved in his care were attentive compassionate and helpful. He definitely received above average care and we would recommend it to others. I couldnt give a 5 star rating because the center itself needs to be painted and many of the blinds draperies and furniture pieces need to be replaced and updated. In addition the common areas on the community grounds would be welcoming with proper clean-up and maintenance.

We have had an excellent experience at Highline so far. Anita Mosley Admissions Coordinator has been most helpful in getting our loved one settled into Highline. This is a difficult time for our family and Anita and her staff are being attentive to every detail. The rooms are spacious and our loved one is comfortable in her new surroundings.

This might not be the fanciest place around but we were treated so nicely by Anita and staff. My 90 year old mom was admitted for rehab and not so happy about that. Everything we asked for to make the room better was done immediately. They appear to be well staffed and someone came to help when you needed it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Speech therapy is almost always recommended for autistic children since many people with autism have difficulty with social communication. Even if a child is very verbal and says a lot of words, they might need to work on communication skills like:
responding to questions
starting or ending conversation
changing conversation topics
using gestures like pointing
understanding other people's body language
Speech therapy is a big focus in early intervention for autistic children and is usually the starting place for recently diagnosed kids. There is a critical period in the brain for language development and so, it's really important to teach language and communication skills as early as possible, especially if there are any delays in that area. Your child will learn effective ways to communicate which will help them grow into more independent and confident individuals.
It might be obvious when a child struggles with speaking —they are very quiet, say only a few words, or don't speak at all.
Spot speech and language delays like a doctor here.
The goal of speech therapy is to help your child communicate effectively with other people across all environments. This may take the form of using gestures, simple signs, verbal speech, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
Some other common things speech therapists can help with:
Nonverbal skills, such as signs or gestures
Forming speech in a clearer way
Communicating thoughts and feelings clearly
Understanding and responding to questions
Discerning facial expressions and their corresponding emotions
Noticing and understanding body language
Feeding and swallowing
Stuttering
When you visit a neurologist, they’ll assess your child’s needs, run some tests (think imaging or EEG), and diagnose. From there, they’ll create a customized treatment plan. Medication, lifestyle tweaks, or maybe even a referral to another specialist could be on the table.
There unfortunately isn’t one test for all neurodevelopmental conditions. Most likely you will go into a visit to test one or two medical conditions. If you are looking for a comprehensive autism evaluation, developmental pediatricians, psychologists, or neuropsychologists are the preferred specialists who can diagnose autism.
No, neurologists focus mainly on non-surgical interventions. If your child needs surgery, neurologists might point you in the direction of a pediatric neurosurgeon.
Music therapy can take place in a variety of settings including schools, hospitals, the child’s own home, rehabilitation centers, and clinics.
A therapy session will vary from child to child, depending on the child’s specific needs. Before your child starts music therapy, their music therapist will develop a personalized treatment plan for your child. Depending on your child’s goals their treatment may involve singing, dancing, listening to music, playing an instrument, or even composing music.
Once you find a music therapist, the therapist will perform an evaluation to determine if music therapy is a good fit for your child as well as determine possible goals. The evaluation will be comprehensive and look at your child’s response to a variety of musical stimuli, including giving your child an opportunity to play with instruments or listen to a variety of music types.
Evaluations will vary based on setting. For example, private practice has a number of evaluation tools while schools typically use an evaluation tool called the SEMTAP (special education music therapy assessment protocol) that focuses on looking at a student’s IEP goals and how or if the addition of music aligns with their IEP goals.
The occupational therapy process includes an OT evaluation before care starts. Here are the four steps your family can expect when starting occupational therapy:
Complete OT evaluation. An occupational therapist first identifies your child’s strengths and needs through a thorough OT evaluation, also known as an OT assessment or screening. You’ll answer questions about your child’s skills, and your child will most likely demonstrate their skills via hands-on activities with the therapist. Evaluations can last 30 minutes to a few hours.
Approve OT plan. The therapist develops a care plan with individualized goals and customized interventions based on your child’s needs. You can also share any specific goals or concerns before approving the OT plan.
Start therapy sessions. The therapist works directly with your child and your family, using various strategies and exercises to systematically improve areas of limitations and to build upon a child’s strengths. Some exercises your child might participate in are animal walks, obstacle courses, and therapy swing activities. Your family may learn strategies for supporting your child’s individualized needs at home, such as ways of supporting emotional regulation and sensory processing. The therapist may also recommend tools and techniques to use at home, in the community, or in the classroom to help your child succeed.
Monitor your child’s progress. Parents and caregivers can expect ongoing progress monitoring and communication to ensure the child is achieving their short and long-term goals.
Occupational therapy can also be provided virtually via telemedicine. Virtual therapy is a great option for families in rural areas who may not have access to in-person services, or for families who prefer to have therapy in their child’s home.
Virtual OT allows the opportunity for increased caregiver participation and understanding of a child’s strengths, areas of improvement, and generalization of skills in the child’s home environment. Virtual therapy also provides increased opportunities for caregiver and family education to support the child and the family based on each family’s needs.
