Introduction

Hi, I'm Vanessa Castillo, a pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist serving children ages 0–13 in Bakersfield, California. I use a play-based approach to help children build communication skills in a fun, engaging, and meaningful way.
My areas of expertise include early intervention, speech sound disorders, and family collaboration. I am passionate about helping children communicate with confidence while empowering families with strategies to support communication at home and in everyday life.
Families often describe me as funny, passionate, and reliable. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time at the beach with my husband and two daughters.

What words would you use to describe yourself?

engaging
funny
motivated
I chose the words engaging, funny, and motivated because they reflect how I connect with children and families. I strive to make therapy enjoyable and meaningful by creating activities that keep children interested and excited to participate. My sense of humor helps build rapport and creates a positive environment where children feel comfortable taking risks and learning new skills. I am also highly motivated to help each child reach their communication goals and to collaborate with families, ensuring they feel supported and empowered throughout the therapy process.

Who are you best positioned to serve?

I am best positioned to serve young children and their families who are seeking support with communication development, speech sound production, and early language skills. I especially enjoy working with families who are trying to better understand their child's unique communication style and want practical strategies to support communication at home. As a bilingual provider, I am also passionate about partnering with bilingual families and helping them navigate communication development while honoring and supporting the languages spoken in their home. My approach is collaborative, family-centered, and tailored to each child's individual strengths and needs.

Vanessa is one of the best SLPs I have ever worked with! She has the ability to build genuine trust with kids, especially those with more complex needs, so that therapy actually works rather than feeling like a disruption to their day. When coordinating with families, she takes the time to focus on your child as an individual, listens carefully to parent concerns, and explains everything in a clear, practical way. She's honest, patient, and truly gives her best to every child she works with! She is an incredible asset to any family lucky enough to work with her.

Vanessa has been amazing from day one. She made my son feel comfortable right away, and they connected from the moment they met. We started working with Vanessa in April, and in the short time since then, I’ve seen noticeable growth and improvement in my son after each session. I am truly grateful that we found Vanessa. Her support, patience, and dedication have made a meaningful difference, and I look forward to continuing to work with her in the future to help my son grow and thrive even more.
