About University of Florida - Center for Autism and Neurodevelopment
Neurodevelopmental disorders represent some of the greatest challenges in the arena of childhood well-being in the 21st century. This group of disorders includes any impairment that arises due to a disruption in the growth and development of the brain or central nervous system. The neurodevelopmental disorders most recognized by the public at present are autism spectrum disorders (ASD). However, other impairments that can be categorized as neurodevelopmental disorders include dyslexia, language impairments, Fragile X syndrome and other genetic neurodevelopmental disorders, sensory impairments, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS). The mission of the Center for Autism and Neurodevelopment at the University of Florida (UF) is to explore the causes of neurodevelopmental disorders, design more effective intervention strategies, and to implement policies and model facilities to ensure that affected children and their families have access to the integrated services they require.
