1 month was too long. Loved my doctors MD Veravalli Sharp Rileyand Attawater... but wish it wasnt such a long hotel CA stay. Visitation is very safely constructed and medication is very picky as it would be. Nothing like bowling green homeopathic tx. Bluegrass in Versailles may be 1 story vs this 3 story state hospital sideways hotel story. Architectureof the place is shaped like a cross for crucified. Pastor Mike is amazing counselor. Lots of artwork on display here and Mrs. Martha and Tamara peer support specialists and occupational therapists are great. ESH offers NAMI dual dx double trouble therapy. State donations and taxi shelter offered for those in trouble. Wish Jessica and Amy would find a different job and let Alex Tamara Jennifer and Braham do their thing. Had a great unit providor but mainly Martha and Alison who helps those with cancer and crohns on the floor. What a time I cant forget....

I couldnt write a review on his site so Ill just write it here. Dr. Erik Goodwin doesnt listen to you or your thoughts on the situation. He diagnoses you with disorders you dont actually have. Im 18 years old and now I have to live with a misdiagnosis because he didnt ask me what was really going on.

Im pretty disappointed by the care my loved one received here. Communication was poor. The only person who truly seemed to care was the social worker team. They were wonderful people. My loved one was sent with pneumonia to another hospital. They worried because he wouldnt eat but couldnt bring him fast food or allow him snacks back to his room. He was an elderly man who was presenting no danger at the time. They also took him to ER without telling us told ER he hadnt missed any seizure med doses when they told me he was refusing to take his meds. Also gave wrong admit date so their neglect was not as obvious. Thankfully hes in a much better place now. Nurses at visitation were friendly.

This is the worst hospital for mental health ever I was there for depression and suicide. And was abused neglected and treated like a prisoner..the staff were rude and uncaring the food was awful the inmates were treated like animals in a zoo and there only solution for everything was to shoot you full of thorazine and lock you in a room by yourself. They should all go to prison..

Horrible experience after being court ordered to this facility. They make you starve between meals with little snacks. Most of the staff is rude and nasty towards the patients. Could be a nice place if they provided hospitality that is more comfortable and comforting. Meals are nasty and pretty much the same everyday and not enough food on the trays. The doctors think they know it all and unwilling to listen to their patients. They think everyones Coo-Coo and should get a shot if they speak out against them or the staff. Horrible place what a nightmare.

I am still fighting cancer had to drive all the way to Michigan to replace what U.K. stole from and its federal law Im allowed to posses it it should have been returned like I had it.

I wish you had an option to give zero stars. This place is no hospital. Do not let anybody you care about go here if they have a legitimate metal issue. Nurses all have really bad attitudes and do not care about or try to help the patients under their supervision. Please find a better place to get the help you need. Im sure some good people work at this place I just have not talked or meet one since my mother has been in this hospitaljail.

They are on Bull Lea Rd. ....B.U.L.L.Y. Rd. It was incredibly terrifying. My experience was that most of the people they hold should not be there and many people are placed there by their families who just want to get rid of them or steal their assets. They do not allow access to phone numbers. Luckily I had one number memorized. They dont allow phone calls to be made to get help and can lock you out of the use of the telephone at their discretion. For example if someone is to ask about why they are not being released as promised. They dont get medical help for people who need it. One woman was bleeding from what she thought could be an ectopic pregnancy. Another thought she had a broken foot. Another was on the floor in pain. No medical help was obtained for any of them They were completely discounted. They would not allow a woman with stage 4 breast cancer to get her medication from her doctor in order to stay in remission. They call people liars who have a life that is unbelievable to their view of how people should live in their little community even after family verifies the facts. Income and travel are easily verified.Dr. Attwater not a psychiatrist as she claims tried to place a 60 day hold on me by taking me to court. They held me 12 days when legally they can only hold someone for 72 hours without a court appearance. They gave very little notice so I could not get an attorney. I however won the court case within 15 minutes.Eastern State Hospital gave me shots for something as soon as I arrived...even before a diagnosis could be made and even though I was completely calm and mentally sound the entire time. There are cameras on the floor of the ward. Everything I say can be verified or disputed. They claim I was a danger to myself because I had cash in my purse. I guess they are not used to seeing people with resources. Sadly those without resources are the ones who are being imprisoned in their system. This place has a terrible reputation in the community. Dr. Attwater not should not have any power over anything or anybody. She is the epitome of medical corruption and patient abuse. She forced me to take a medication for a disorder I was not diagnosed with and which can cause death in older individuals such as myself. They generally refuse to tell people what their medications are for or give them requested documentation about their medicines. I was fortunate enough to have a good pharmacist print documentation for the drug they made me take. They told me if I didnt take it I risked being placed there indefinitely. Is this all about money or is there more to the story Texas senators are pursuing action against these places in their communities. Lets stand up for the rights of these forgotten people I have written a complete account of my experience at Eastern State Hospital and will submit it to authorities. I was actually sent here by St. Josephs Hospital in Lexington KY. They lied and said I claimed to be suicidal when I went in for hydration. St. Josephs Hospital left me untreated for hours. Thats another sordid story of elder abuse and patient deceit.Know your rights in advance of something like this happening to you or someone you know My family was unable to do much because of HIPPA and they thought all was well because I was in the hands of supposed doctors with U of Kentucky. They claimed I had no family. It is illegal for them to transfer you from one facility to another without consent or to hold a person more than 72 hours without seeing a judge. Speak out when you have been abused and held against your will. Look at other accounts on social media such as YouTube to learn more about how to prevent this from happening to youOh there is a reason I had money and a strong voice that you demanded I change Chelsea Attwater....and YOU are NOT a psychiatrist. I am a foreign dignitary. We see what is happening now. Human sacrifice. Your staff is from all over including countries that are experts in human experimentation. These are crimes against humanity in America.

The good Doctor Charles Shelton sold me on pills that in turn gave me chronic abrupt pain in my shoulder. And on the day I was told I would get news of joining the almost completely money draining CKRC program I was rushed into a discharge. Despicable. AND one of the nurses no kidding stole my trimmers. God bless.

Frequently Asked Questions
Use visual aids. You can use picture schedules, videos, social stories, and other visual aids to show your child what to expect.
Take your child for a practice visit. This can be the same as the orientation visit, or it can be a “dry run” of an appointment where the dentist doesn’t actually work on your child’s teeth yet.
Bring items to fulfill sensory needs. Bringing your child’s favorite fidgets and toys so they can play during the appointment will be helpful.
Reduce unnecessary stress before and after. Reduce demands by wearing comfortable clothes, getting lots of rest, eliminating unnecessary activities (like grocery shopping — order for pick up!), and doing the things that relax your child. Your child will be able to regulate better when every day stressors are kept at a minimum.
Your pediatrician might be able to administer screenings, but most general doctors are not trained to formally diagnose autism. They might refer you to a qualified diagnostic clinician which include:
Developmental Pediatricians
Child Psychologists
Child Psychiatrists
Pediatric Neurologists
Pediatric Neuropsychologists
Your experience might look different depending on the type of clinician you choose. Many families prefer working with developmental pediatricians. Others might work with a psychiatrist or another specialist to get a different perspective.
A formal ASD diagnosis, or a medical diagnosis, helps you get the support your family needs, especially within the context of accessing medically necessary therapies and services.
Insurance Coverage for Therapies: Medically necessary therapies for ASD are often covered by insurance including, but not limited to, speech therapy, ABA therapy, and occupational therapy.
Financial Support: A diagnosis is required when applying for social security or disability benefits.
Plan for Care: A diagnosis helps identify your child’s support needs. For example, your child might need to develop social communication and self-regulation skills.
Future Research: The more data we gather through evaluations, the more we can improve services for autistic children and adults.
In a typical allergic reaction, your child’s body encounters an allergen (like pollen, dander, or pet hair) and sees it as a threat. Trying to protect itself, the immune system sends out a special protein called IgE antibodies to the mast cells in your child’s body. When your child comes in contact with the allergen again, those cells release chemicals (like histamines or eosinophils). The chemicals the antibodies release cause inflammation. That’s why your child’s nose gets stuffy and runny, or their skin breaks out in a rash when they come in contact with an allergen.
There are several types of allergies that children can have. Your child may experience one or more of these. While there are some rare ones out there, these are the most common types:
Allergic Rhinitis: This is when your child has allergies to things like pollen, dust, or pet dander in the air.
Food Allergies: Some children are allergic to certain foods like peanuts, milk, eggs, or fish.
Drug Allergies: Your child may be allergic to certain medicines. If they take a medicine they’re allergic to, they might get a rash, hives, or feel sick.
Insect Sting Allergies: If your child gets stung by a bee, wasp, or fire ant, they might have an allergic reaction.
Contact Allergies: Some people have a reaction when their skin touches certain things, like certain metals, latex, or plants (such as poison ivy).
Allergic Asthma: This is a specific subtype of asthma where asthma symptoms are triggered by things the person is allergic to, like pollen or pet dander.
For more information on common allergies in children, check out our guide.
Yes, a psychiatrist is a good person to speak with regarding medication for your child. While you might have an idea of what might work for your child, it’s best to have a conversation with a medical professional, such as a psychiatrist. What works for one autistic child may not work for another, so consider your child’s individual needs and goals.
If you’d like to explore prescription medications or supplements for your child, weigh your options and concerns with your child’s medical team and create a plan. Discuss developments and side effects with your child’s doctor and adjust as needed.
When you visit a neurologist, they’ll assess your child’s needs, run some tests (think imaging or EEG), and diagnose. From there, they’ll create a customized treatment plan. Medication, lifestyle tweaks, or maybe even a referral to another specialist could be on the table.
There unfortunately isn’t one test for all neurodevelopmental conditions. Most likely you will go into a visit to test one or two medical conditions. If you are looking for a comprehensive autism evaluation, developmental pediatricians, psychologists, or neuropsychologists are the preferred specialists who can diagnose autism.
No, neurologists focus mainly on non-surgical interventions. If your child needs surgery, neurologists might point you in the direction of a pediatric neurosurgeon.
