Introduction
My name is Tyonie “Ty” Patterson, M.A., CCC-SLP, and I’m a pediatric speech-language pathologist and owner of Speech Language Express Therapy Services in Culver City, California. I serve children ages 18 months to 13 years using a child-led, play-based, and strengths-focused approach. My expertise includes early language development, speech sound disorders, receptive and expressive language, social communication, fluency, and AAC. I’m passionate about making therapy fun and meaningful while empowering families with practical strategies to help their children become confident communicators in everyday life.
My approach to therapy is child-led, play-based, strengths-focused, and family-centered. My expertise includes early intervention, speech sound disorders, receptive and expressive language, social communication, fluency, AAC, and multimodal communication. I’m not as well-positioned to serve children who require specialized eye-gaze AAC, myofunctional therapy, feeding and swallowing therapy, or highly specialized voice services.
I’m passionate about making therapy fun and meaningful while helping children become confident communicators and empowering families with practical strategies.
When I’m not in therapy sessions, you can find me trying new vegan restaurants, traveling, spending time with family and friends, exploring new places around Los Angeles, working on my children’s books, or finding new ways to be creative. I also enjoy learning about health and wellness and finding time to relax and recharge.
What words would you use to describe yourself?
I’m patient because I understand that every child communicates and develops at their own pace. I’m creative because I love making therapy fun, engaging, and meaningful through play, movement, books, visuals, and each child’s interests. I’m compassionate because I genuinely care about building trusting relationships with children and their families while creating a safe and supportive space for them to learn, grow, and communicate with confidence.
Who are you best positioned to serve?
I am best positioned to serve toddlers through school-age children who need support with speech sounds, receptive and expressive language, early communication, social communication, fluency, and AAC. I especially enjoy working with children who benefit from child-led, play-based, visual, movement-based, and multimodal approaches to learning. I also value working closely with families who want practical strategies to support communication at home and during everyday routines. My goal is to meet each child where they are, build on their strengths, and help them become more confident and effective communicators.
