About The Center for Accessable Technology

The Center for Accessible Technology (CforAT) non-profit organization began in 1983 when a group of parents of children with disabilities came together to develop strategies for including their children into mainstream elementary school settings. With an initial focus on computer technology, these parents developed models whereby kids with disabilities could be fully included in the school curriculum. They provide access to assistive technology that gives people with disabilities access to computers, provide art programs and offer ongoing consultation and support to assist people with disabilities. Their Adult Services Division staff are expert in creating solutions to difficulties they may have in using computers. They provide services to clients of the Department of Rehabilitation, to employees of companies, and through their Up and Running Program. The Center for Accessible Technology began life as the Disabled Children's Computer Group, when a group of parents and professionals came together to evaluate how the emerging computer revolution would impact the education of children with disabilities. Their services remain tied to educational strategies, and provide a diverse range of services to support the IEP goals of children with disabilities. Access Studio is a place where people with disabilities, and well as people without disabilities, can work side by side to create art projects.
