If you take a job supporting someone getting services through The Arc CCR- just be sure you think it through. The family that you will work for can treat you however they want. They can choose to fire you in an instant. I got fired at 1000 pm through text on a day that I did not work because the mom was having a bad day and projected her stress and anger at her disorganization onto me. This was completely out of the blue. I have never been talked to about bad work performance and had just gotten a raise. The stress and unhappiness of the parents was projected on to me and I was degraded on a daily basis by the supported persons parents. I was peeling an apple one day and the automatic trashcan lid shut on me and a peel hit the ground and the father got down on the ground and pointed at the apple peel as I was still peeling an apple and told me I needed to clean that up because he would not clean up after me. Little things like this happened on a daily basis- being degraded and treated like I was stupid. I was constantly teased for being a small built woman and they had extreme expectations of me picking up their child off the ground who is significantly overweight and has a physical disability. If I told them no I didnt want to hurt myself they would tell me its my job and I have muscles I need to use them and that they dont like hearing no. It was no where in the job description or I would not have taken the job because I cannot lift over 50 pounds. I was FORCED- told I had to take on another job taking care for a grandmother with dementia because the mom decided to seek new employment and grandmother could not be left home alone. I was made to feel like I was the reason their daughter was overweight because she loved to bake we would bake from time to time. She was overweight far before I started to work there and I tried to get the mom to pick us up healthy items to bake with and to have for snacks and she never would. Really everything their daughter was struggling with was made to be my fault. If we made a mess with crafts I was made to terrible about it even if we were going to clean up the mess- it wasnt fast enough for the father. One time a overlooked a small pink feather on the floor after crafts and was yelled at. I couldnt even have fun with the supported person towards the end of my time there. I was threatened by the son who has an explosive temper who is living in the house on multiple occasions after I witnessed him stealing medication from the grandmother living in the house. I had to listen to the father constantly trigger his daughters anxiety and anger causing the daughter to inflict self harm- he did not care his actions trigger her. It was such an uncomfortable environment. If you are someone who has an education and passion for this field or someone who knows anything about working with people with differing abilities this will suck the life out of you. It is very hard to work in an environment like this because I was not allowed to really use my skills or share my knowledge to support the person. I wasnt even allowed to do the things the support person wanted to do for fun. Theres is no accountability the families have to face for their behavior wrongs mistakes. Absolutely horrible experience. So be prepared that situations like this could happen to you. This particular location was Whiteford MD. If this is where your supported person lives- RUN - The family had me in a tough situation because needed the flexibility in hours I could work and I dealt with this for over a yearthey will take advantage of you and drain your passion for this work. Dont fall for it like I did.

I worked for this company through the self directed program as an employee for FOUR years and it wasnt until the end of 2022 when things started getting bad. They have no direct number for you to call when you have an issue. They dont pay you on your expected pay date and being as though there is no direct number to call you basically get paid when they get around to your ticket. They dont give any explanation on why or how your pay is being delayed. They have also never gave me my expected raises throughout the years. The support broker I was working with was HORRIBLE Any concerns I had with the client I had he had no solutions. I expressed to him how the clients living conditions were not comfortable to work in. You would think he would help solve the problem ABSOLUTELY NOT instead he made his job easier by replacing me with someone else. I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS JOB OR COMPANY FOR SELF DIRECTED SERVICES

Criminal company They havent paid me on time several times. the most recent was the Friday before Christmas they managed to pay me a week later however they still have not paid my coworker. They do not have a reliable number to call when you have such problem. They tell you to take a ticket which means they will get to it when they feel like it.PEOPLE HAVE BILLS Give them the money they earned on time DO YOUR JOB And before you even say it I definitely work for the arc of the central Chesapeake.

Do Not Work For Them They under pay you. Have no organization and they lie just to get you to return a phone and laptop to get your paycheck. They treat you like a thief and dont pay you when you submit tickets. You dont know who to go to for what. . Dont Trust Them

Run away from the Arc. I have had 7 late incomplete or partial payments in the last six months. They said it was my fault that they didnt have the participants information correct and Im left paying late fees for my bills and obligations. I cant even fulfill my end of agreements because my last three consecutive payments have been either incomplete or late. Ive worked in this field for over 17 years. Ive never had an issue with getting paid until I started working with the Arc

Ive been pleased with the Arc Central Chesapeake. Were Self Directed and any problems or issues we had they were promptly addressed and resolved via the Customer Service Ticket system. During my transitioning to Evvie I found that the Arc offered plenty training opportunities and were helpful with any issues I had. Im glad I chose this organization as my Fiscal Manager. Also they plenty of resources on their website.
