Summit Assistance Dogs

Summit Assistance Dogs is a nonprofit organization, located in Anacortes, Washington, that provides highly-skilled mobility, hearing and therapy dogs for people with disabilities.;Summit was founded in 2000 in response to the overwhelming need for more trained dogs. According to recent statistics it is estimated that only 1% of people wishing partnership with a canine helpmate are able to receive one.;Summit also enriches the lives of young people by involving them, through special educational programs, in the training of our dogs. Dogs currently attend several elementary schools and libraries where students take part in our Tales for Tails reading program. Challenged students read to our dogs, which increases their motivation to learn and gives them a non-judgmental listening partner to practice their skills with. Our dogs benefit as well by learning appropriate social skills and basic obedience.
