Horrible these people are so outdated and are not able to figure out how to open the document to the patient gateway and also or disrespectful there are so many things that I could say the biggest issue is being in the waiting room or people do not want to keep their masks on are very loud and considerate to sit behind a plexiglass window which is great for them but people can contract Covid never mind being in pain and sitting in a place where people are so inconsiderate and nobody manages this I am shocked because they put you through a program like youre going to the CIA and everything is just a mess Every single medical building I have gone into you put on your mask and sanitize before you even enter this place you do it once youre inside that is careless and inconsiderate and if you contract Covid theyre not gonna care

I cant speak highly enough about the exceptional care I have received at Spaulding Rehabilitation in Medford. From the moment I walked in I was greeted by the warm and engaging front desk staff who deserve special recognition for their warmth and genuine concern. Their friendly smiles and caring demeanor make every visit a pleasant experience and they are a testament to the practices commitment to patient care. The Occupational Therapy team is simply wonderful. From the moment I stepped into their office space it was evident that they genuinely care about their patients well-being. The pillars of the program are Eve S. Deborah R. and Rick F. all of whom are incredibly knowledgeable and work to ensure that their patients are well informed throughout treatment. Their dedication to their patients is truly inspiring. They not only possess a wealth of knowledge but also have the unique ability to empower and motivate. Their genuine concern for my progress and well-being has been a driving force in my rehabilitation. The personalized approach they take to every session makes me feel like more than just a patient but a person with unique needs and goals. The Physical Therapy team led by Jennifer J. Afarin A. and Dianne K. is equally remarkable. They are incredibly patient and understanding taking the time to explain each step of the process and ensuring that I am comfortable throughout my therapy. Their expertise is evident in every session and they consistently go above and beyond to tailor their approach to my specific needs.I would also like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Karen P. and Marie G. for their exceptional support during my transfer from Maryland to Massachusetts. Their accommodation and guidance made the transition seamless and stress-free allowing me to continue my treatment without interruption.Being a medical provider myself I feel as if I have a unique lens in terms of understanding everything that providers do for their patients. I cant help but marvel at the care Ive received as Ive navigated my journey through recovery. The team at Spaulding has created a holistic environment of care knowledge and empathy. I am grateful for the incredible support I have received and I wholeheartedly recommend this practice to anyone in need of exceptional medical care.Good health is lifeAdrielle P.

They attack pain from every conceivable angle in ways I never knew I was causing strain to my body. Even if my diagnosis is incurable it helps me alleviate all the unnecessary additional layers of pain. 1 star removed because parking can be atrocious due to the insane quantity of reserved spaces that go unused.

Staff is caring and attentive. But the model of chronic pain treatment is outdated and will not provide a resolution of symptoms. The TMS approach is not used here which is truly a disservice to patients. If you are a patient in chronic pain consider finding a TMS doctor or psychotherapist who uses the Dr. Sarno approach.

Every single person Ive interacted with here has been amazing. Im being treated for chronic and acute conditions. Their acupuncturist is a wizard. The occupational therapist I work is absolutely delightful and my new favorite person. Their physical therapists are great. Somehow their social worker can cut through a lifetime of avoidance and deflection to get to my issues. The team at reception always puts a smile on my face and Dr. Colbert is hilarious and incredibly knowledgeable. Entering their functional restoration program feels like enrolling at the Xavier Institute and Im glad Im finally being taught how to use my special powers.

Frequently Asked Questions
Speech therapy is almost always recommended for autistic children since many people with autism have difficulty with social communication. Even if a child is very verbal and says a lot of words, they might need to work on communication skills like:
responding to questions
starting or ending conversation
changing conversation topics
using gestures like pointing
understanding other people's body language
Speech therapy is a big focus in early intervention for autistic children and is usually the starting place for recently diagnosed kids. There is a critical period in the brain for language development and so, it's really important to teach language and communication skills as early as possible, especially if there are any delays in that area. Your child will learn effective ways to communicate which will help them grow into more independent and confident individuals.
It might be obvious when a child struggles with speaking —they are very quiet, say only a few words, or don't speak at all.
Spot speech and language delays like a doctor here.
The goal of speech therapy is to help your child communicate effectively with other people across all environments. This may take the form of using gestures, simple signs, verbal speech, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
Some other common things speech therapists can help with:
Nonverbal skills, such as signs or gestures
Forming speech in a clearer way
Communicating thoughts and feelings clearly
Understanding and responding to questions
Discerning facial expressions and their corresponding emotions
Noticing and understanding body language
Feeding and swallowing
Stuttering
When you visit a neurologist, they’ll assess your child’s needs, run some tests (think imaging or EEG), and diagnose. From there, they’ll create a customized treatment plan. Medication, lifestyle tweaks, or maybe even a referral to another specialist could be on the table.
There unfortunately isn’t one test for all neurodevelopmental conditions. Most likely you will go into a visit to test one or two medical conditions. If you are looking for a comprehensive autism evaluation, developmental pediatricians, psychologists, or neuropsychologists are the preferred specialists who can diagnose autism.
No, neurologists focus mainly on non-surgical interventions. If your child needs surgery, neurologists might point you in the direction of a pediatric neurosurgeon.
The occupational therapy process includes an OT evaluation before care starts. Here are the four steps your family can expect when starting occupational therapy:
Complete OT evaluation. An occupational therapist first identifies your child’s strengths and needs through a thorough OT evaluation, also known as an OT assessment or screening. You’ll answer questions about your child’s skills, and your child will most likely demonstrate their skills via hands-on activities with the therapist. Evaluations can last 30 minutes to a few hours.
Approve OT plan. The therapist develops a care plan with individualized goals and customized interventions based on your child’s needs. You can also share any specific goals or concerns before approving the OT plan.
Start therapy sessions. The therapist works directly with your child and your family, using various strategies and exercises to systematically improve areas of limitations and to build upon a child’s strengths. Some exercises your child might participate in are animal walks, obstacle courses, and therapy swing activities. Your family may learn strategies for supporting your child’s individualized needs at home, such as ways of supporting emotional regulation and sensory processing. The therapist may also recommend tools and techniques to use at home, in the community, or in the classroom to help your child succeed.
Monitor your child’s progress. Parents and caregivers can expect ongoing progress monitoring and communication to ensure the child is achieving their short and long-term goals.
Occupational therapy can also be provided virtually via telemedicine. Virtual therapy is a great option for families in rural areas who may not have access to in-person services, or for families who prefer to have therapy in their child’s home.
Virtual OT allows the opportunity for increased caregiver participation and understanding of a child’s strengths, areas of improvement, and generalization of skills in the child’s home environment. Virtual therapy also provides increased opportunities for caregiver and family education to support the child and the family based on each family’s needs.
Once you find a quality physical therapist you want to work with, here are a few things you need to know:
There will be an evaluation. First, you can expect an assessment to identify your child’s areas of strength and needs. A physical therapy evaluation usually lasts 30 minutes.
You’ll review and approve the care plan. The physical therapist will create a care plan, also known as a plan of care (POC), outlining the goals and strategies. They will review this with you and your care team before moving forward with therapy sessions.
Physical therapy sessions will be fun. PT with children is designed to be enjoyable. The therapist will use strategies and exercises based on your child’s needs. Exercises might involve playing on large stability balls, obstacle courses, movement equipment, stretches, and other hands-on activities.
Expect home exercises. Physical therapists commonly assign exercises to work on at home. Doing these exercises with your child outside therapy sessions can improve your child’s overall progress.
Yes! Most providers offer physical therapy in their offices or a clinical setting, but many are offering at-home options. Virtual options have become more popular in recent years. You might facilitate care with the guidance of the physical therapist.
