About SociAbilities

Sociabilities is an after school program to help students with at-risk behavior ages 3-15 who need academic assistance, social skills, behavioral support, and communication enrichment.;Sociabilities also hosts KidSpot which serves the community with Occupational Therapy serves by licensed OT Ellen Bridge.;Early Intervention Classes;Ages 3-5 Facilitated small groups led by Sharon and trained assistants to help children work through pre school age difficulties. Children are taught how to play with toys, how to be kind to friends, and how to communicate with adults and children in their environment. We work at building self confidence and independent skills so that each child can enjoy childhood. Parents are involved in all aspects of this program.;Social Skills Classes;Ages 3-15 Social skills classes meet weekly discussing different topics from sources including 'Skillstreaming' and “Social Thinking”. Sessions include cooperative play skills, initiating and sustaining friendships, recognizing social cues, practicing techniques to help control impulses, skills to promote empathy, practice expressing feelings and identification of personal space. Sessions include play time, board games, discussion, snack and art. Classes are divided by ability and age.;Kindergarten Readiness;We work on the skills needed to be successful when entering Kindergarten. The class will cover alphabet writing and reciting, number id, making patterns, social skills, when to raise your hand, art, reading books and music. Fine motor skills will be practiced weekly. Come join us for lots of kindergarten fun!!!;Tutoring Individual and group tutoring is offered for students aged kindergarten through 5th grade. Tutoring services include language arts and mathematics.A wide variety of materials are used to boost confidence and skills in a comfortable environment

Founding Story

Owner and Director of the SociAbilties center. Sharon has an Elementary Teaching Credential and a Master’s degree in special education with emphasis in communication delays. Sharon has 30 years of experience as an educator and worked in the Las Virgenes school district for 20 years in special education. Sharon was selected for the “Teacher of the Year” award during her years in the Las Virgenes district. She has worked with children from infant through to high school. Her experience includes children with a wide diversity of challenges including deaf and hard of hearing, blind, cerebral palsy, autism , ADHD, Bipolar disorder, genetic disorders and a range of communication delays.
