Hi, I’m Serene Schaner, a Doctor of Occupational Therapy based in Twain Harte, California. I’m passionate about helping children build the skills they need to participate confidently in everyday activities, whether that means learning through play, developing fine and gross motor skills, managing emotions and sensory needs, or becoming more successful at school and home. My approach is individualized, child-led, and play-based, while also partnering closely with families to create practical strategies that support progress beyond therapy sessions. I strive to make therapy engaging, encouraging, and meaningful for every child.
What words would you use to describe yourself?
I strive to be empathetic by taking the time to understand each child’s unique strengths, challenges, interests, and experiences. I’m encouraging because I want children to feel confident in themselves and proud of their progress, no matter how big or small the achievement. I’m also patient and understand that every child develops and learns at their own pace. I believe creating a supportive, judgment-free environment allows children to feel comfortable, build confidence, and try new things while developing the skills they need to be successful.
Who are you best positioned to serve?
I’m best positioned to serve children who are working on fine and gross motor skills, sensory processing, emotional regulation, executive functioning, and participation in school or daily activities. I especially enjoy working with children who benefit from play-based, child-led therapy and families who want practical strategies they can use at home. My pediatric experience includes working with children with autism and other developmental needs.
