My son went to the Springfield location for about 6-8 months and saw Kylie James. My son has truly enjoyed and loved the experience of going there and working with Ms. Kylie and just overall visiting the clinic. Ms. Kylie is truly the greatest and sweetest she truly cares about her job and the kids she helps She really listens to the issues you first present and does an excellent job assessing and developing a plan for treatment. We worked on joint attention and foundation skills for my son when he joined around 18 months and now he has said a few words claps waves bye bye and shows more interest in function playing taking turns and listening We would continue on with Ms. Kylie but got into free more convenient services for him. We will absolutely love to come back if we ever needed to for future purposes
Ms. Kylie at the Springfield location has been working with my son since August. We could not be happier with Ms. Kylies speech services. She is vibrant fun engaging and professional. He has made tremendous progress with her in just a few months both in articulation and in pragmatics. We have also done occupational therapy there and those services have been good as well. I also love how organized the front desk is re. scheduling. We have recurring appointments that have made it much easier to make sure my sons services are consistent. I recommend Sensational Kidz Springfield office particularly Ms. Kylie very highly
Our family has had a very positive experience with sensational kidz in Springfield. Our child receives speech therapy services with Ms Kylie. She is amazing she is fun personable and extremely knowledgeable in her field. You can honestly tell she loves what she does every day We love that in the beginning she took the time to learn our childs personality learning style and special needs to best help him his areas of need. Our son is making so much progress and he looks forward to meeting with Ms. Kylie each time Additionally the office staff is kind personable and accommodating.Thank you Sensational kidz 3

Ms. Kylie at Sensational Kidz at the Springfield locatoin has been such a blessing to our kids I recommend to any family really needing to get their kids quality care and help. All of the providers from Speech OT and PT are kind caring and take their time with our kids. Even the front desk is kind accomdating and professional. Despite a lengthy waitlist this staff and location was well worth the wait. So glad our kids are getting their Speech OT and PT services here. Forever grateful.
When our 4 year old started speech therapy he didnt talk and when he did try to talk he would get stuck on his words. For 2 years Peyton worked with Miss Sarah. He really took a liking to her as they both shared a similar interest in dinosaurs. Through Peytons love of dinosaurs Miss Sarah was able to work with Peyton and get him to open up more and more every session. We started to notice as time went on that our little boy was gaining confidence in his speech. We are so thankful for this office and for Miss Sarah. She gave Peyton a voice. I have already recommended a friends little to this office and I will continue to do so.
Dont waste yours or your childs time. Sensational Kidz Therapy was full of red flags but I was desperate for my daughter to get evaluated so I could be proactive in helping her. They give contradictory information every time I call. They give a run around on so and so is not here and will call you back but they never do. her name is Karla. when she wants to work she is very nice when she doesnt want to work she is rude arrogant and even ended the call. she says some information then another information and with the language she doesnt say she is Hispanic and she doesnt like to speak Spanish. If you do not speak English or do not have an interpreter do not look here it is the worst place I have found. bad information bad attention and bad coordination and rude as if one was giving them free attention . stay away from this place. This process is already stressful enough theyve made it beyond frustrating. And the whole time weve been waiting for at least information if not actual help
My oldest son started going to this office few years ago and now my youngest goes there as well up until recently. They provide everything from PT ABA speech and OT. From the get-go the staff has been amazing from the front desk receptionist Suleyma who not only has helped us with getting my boys into schedule in the system but she goes above and beyond as soon as my boys walk in and being the super hero that she is concocts these coloring pages based off the toy that my kids happened to bring that day. It makes both my boys day. From the other reviews that I read yes scheduling can sometimes get tricky but they are super accommodating. I have had zero problems. The absolutely wonderful therapists cater to my kids needs and definitely take the time working with them. I have seen amazing progress on both my kids and believe me I have searched everywhere. I highly recommend this office.
Frequently Asked Questions
Speech therapy is almost always recommended for autistic children since many people with autism have difficulty with social communication. Even if a child is very verbal and says a lot of words, they might need to work on communication skills like:
- responding to questions
- starting or ending conversation
- changing conversation topics
- using gestures like pointing
- understanding other people's body language
Speech therapy is a big focus in early intervention for autistic children and is usually the starting place for recently diagnosed kids. There is a critical period in the brain for language development and so, it's really important to teach language and communication skills as early as possible, especially if there are any delays in that area. Your child will learn effective ways to communicate which will help them grow into more independent and confident individuals.
It might be obvious when a child struggles with speaking —they are very quiet, say only a few words, or don't speak at all.
Spot speech and language delays like a doctor here.
The goal of speech therapy is to help your child communicate effectively with other people across all environments. This may take the form of using gestures, simple signs, verbal speech, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
Some other common things speech therapists can help with:
- Nonverbal skills, such as signs or gestures
- Forming speech in a clearer way
- Communicating thoughts and feelings clearly
- Understanding and responding to questions
- Discerning facial expressions and their corresponding emotions
- Noticing and understanding body language
- Feeding and swallowing
- Stuttering
The occupational therapy process includes an OT evaluation before care starts. Here are the four steps your family can expect when starting occupational therapy:
- Complete OT evaluation. An occupational therapist first identifies your child’s strengths and needs through a thorough OT evaluation, also known as an OT assessment or screening. You’ll answer questions about your child’s skills, and your child will most likely demonstrate their skills via hands-on activities with the therapist. Evaluations can last 30 minutes to a few hours.
- Approve OT plan. The therapist develops a care plan with individualized goals and customized interventions based on your child’s needs. You can also share any specific goals or concerns before approving the OT plan.
- Start therapy sessions. The therapist works directly with your child and your family, using various strategies and exercises to systematically improve areas of limitations and to build upon a child’s strengths. Some exercises your child might participate in are animal walks, obstacle courses, and therapy swing activities. Your family may learn strategies for supporting your child’s individualized needs at home, such as ways of supporting emotional regulation and sensory processing. The therapist may also recommend tools and techniques to use at home, in the community, or in the classroom to help your child succeed.
- Monitor your child’s progress. Parents and caregivers can expect ongoing progress monitoring and communication to ensure the child is achieving their short and long-term goals.
Occupational therapy can also be provided virtually via telemedicine. Virtual therapy is a great option for families in rural areas who may not have access to in-person services, or for families who prefer to have therapy in their child’s home.
Virtual OT allows the opportunity for increased caregiver participation and understanding of a child’s strengths, areas of improvement, and generalization of skills in the child’s home environment. Virtual therapy also provides increased opportunities for caregiver and family education to support the child and the family based on each family’s needs.
Once you find a quality physical therapist you want to work with, here are a few things you need to know:
- There will be an evaluation. First, you can expect an assessment to identify your child’s areas of strength and needs. A physical therapy evaluation usually lasts 30 minutes.
- You’ll review and approve the care plan. The physical therapist will create a care plan, also known as a plan of care (POC), outlining the goals and strategies. They will review this with you and your care team before moving forward with therapy sessions.
- Physical therapy sessions will be fun. PT with children is designed to be enjoyable. The therapist will use strategies and exercises based on your child’s needs. Exercises might involve playing on large stability balls, obstacle courses, movement equipment, stretches, and other hands-on activities.
- Expect home exercises. Physical therapists commonly assign exercises to work on at home. Doing these exercises with your child outside therapy sessions can improve your child’s overall progress.
Yes! Most providers offer physical therapy in their offices or a clinical setting, but many are offering at-home options. Virtual options have become more popular in recent years. You might facilitate care with the guidance of the physical therapist.
Pediatric physical therapy is considered safe and should not hurt. Autistic children spend their time in PT moving and exploring their environment. If you are concerned about your child experiencing pain during certain exercises, especially if they may struggle to communicate and advocate for modifications, speak with their physical therapist about your concerns.
Yes, picky and selective eating is actually a quite common concern for children with autism. If you rolled your eyes looking at the steps above because your child with autism has never had a full day's serving of vegetables in their life, you are definitely not alone. As if getting kids to eat their veggies isn’t challenging enough, research shows children with autism have significantly more eating challenges than their peers who are not autistic.
In addition to sensory difficulties that can lead to a lot of anxiety with food, autistic children are 4x more likely to have gastrointestinal issues such as stomach pain and discomfort. This creates the perfect storm for extra extra picky eaters - and a lot of added obstacles and concerns for parents.
The difficulties associated with autistic children and food can cause a wide range of concerns from children being underweight to overweight (overweight children can still be at risk for nutritional deficiencies!). This can lead to slower than normal growth and nutritional deficiencies like low vitamin D and calcium levels. Even when given multivitamins, many children with autism are still found to have some of these nutritional deficiencies.
