Great place to work and gain valuable experience in the field of mental healthsocial services I started here as an intern in 2015 and received an amazing in-depth training experience with regard to the ins and outs of the human servicessocial services field. I became an employee crisis counselor in 2020 and could not speak more highly about my experience. I was able to screen and refer clients hold group sessions conduct treatment planning connect consumers to community resources and work closely with doctorspsychiatrists to help consumers stabilize on their medication. The directors and supervisors are extremely supportive and knowledgeable. The clientsconsumers are screened thoroughly and present with a wide range of presenting issuescrises. Each SJH location is safe and comfortable for both staff and consumers. I recently left to pursue a position more specifically tailored to my career but would not have been able to achieve this without my experience at Safe Journey House.

Safe Journey is a good place to do your Internship for Social Work or Counseling. I would recommend this place for people who are doing their Masters in Social Work or Psychology

Anyone who would give a review above a Minus 1 has mental problems Where should I start The daytime staff is incompetent at best. Jasmin is the most timid person i have ever met. She was so clueless that simple housing forms such as rehab for housing was far too difficult and it took 3 days and she deeded a sample form from her supervisor the infamous Iffy to provide one How about Rimmi she claims that she doesnt like people at all Glad you get paid to work with people. She had some kinda of break down and was taken away in an ambulance. She is rude and mean at best Now on to the great leader IFFY She told us we eat too much therefore no more food for the week It was Tuesday She is a belligerent bully Who must recieve a bonus check to stay under budget. She is so stingy when it comes to feeding the consumers and being under budget My favorite was the night we got a nice 10 inch plain pizza for 12 people for dinner For lunch we could have 4 different sandwiches all requiring bread which we didnt have because she claims we eat to much We didnt have a working can opener...she told me to open it with a chef knife Anyway stingy with all the food. They would bring frozen meats such as ground turkey or beef or chicken legs at 5pm. After I would ask 3 or 4 or 5 time during the day Thats just the food which I could ellaobrate how gross the house is and how not one staff members cares unless there is a planned inspection. She demands that use all of our food stamps to feed ourselves. No one works cleans anything except for me. I would mop twice a day Clean the entire house period . The house should be destroyed Raw sewage leak under the kitchen The staff does absolutely nothing to help you obtain housing They simply discharged us and handed you a piece of paper with the address to a shelter in DC and said its so nice well its absolutely not Absolutely pathetic Safe journey house should be called Slum hell house Everyone should be fired Do an inspection without notice and see the vary poor conditions To take advantage of the state resources and pay any of them is unbelievable and to treat human beings like trash is completely unexceptable How do I know all of this I experienced it for 10 horrible days

I am writing this to stand up for Safe Journey House since it looks like many people are unhappy with their individualized experiences here. Safe Journey House is not perfect no crisis center or social service is. Many do the best they can with the resources they have. I understand SJH cannot make every one that comes through our doors happy. The goal of SJH is to have our clients leave here more stable than when they came in. Every case is different and has a different outcome. Some people are thrilled with the treatment they received here while others are not at all. Every individual is different. With that said we may not be perfect you may not be either but we want to make a difference. You critiques are welcome and we take all of them personally to better our establishment. As a crisis center we receive positive and negative feedback obviously it is more likely for a client to post derogatory statements about an organization based on frustration in regards to the type of food we have for example we have frozen broccoli instead of fresh little things like that can be upsetting to some people a negative experience or discussion with a counselor or the general regulations of the center. Opinions also vary based on personal background experience and expectations. That is how the world works sometimes We are a temporary housing crisis center not a hotel. We cater to those who have limited options. The staff that works here is highly educated in the social services and mental health field and care about minority populations. We do the best we can.

First let me start by saying im a Male in my mid 30s and this was a great experience for me. For anyone suffering from any kind of Mental health disorder this is a great place to recieve treatment and get your medicines. Safe Journey is a Crisis bed and me myself have used Safe Journey on several occasions during my hardships on a day to day basis.I was able to see a doctor get back on my medication and attend group meetings on top of that i got THREE hot delicious meals and a warm bed to sleep at night. Safe Journey allowed me the opportunity to clean myself up and get away from the stress of everyday life while also planning for my near future. Safe journey was a great experience and i recommend Safe journey to anyone going through a Mental Health Crisis.

The experiences I have received at SJH have been invaluable in shaping my Outlook on mental health and my dedication to serving the mentally Ill in my community. The work culture of SJH is relaxed and caring and the patients are the first focus of the staff. Proud to be here.

I have been working here for almost a year now at Gaithersburg location and have experienced a healthy work environment thus far. SJH houses are built very nice and the population served is raw. You get a lot of hands on experience.

If you can avoid this place as an employee or consumer.. AVOID IT. Ben the ceo is a liar and passive aggressive fraudulent sneaky little rat. Jen his assistant is the same. The counselors treat the consumers like they are a burden and not like people with mental health issues that need help. The consumers dont have a satisfactory amount of food. Buying food once a week for a house with 10 grown adult people is ridiculous. Calling consumers dope fiends is counterproductive to the program. They play favorites when deciding which consumers will get the help they need. This place is not ran professionally nor do the consumers get treated the way they should. I wouldnt recommend anyone use this facility or work for them. Extremely low pay zero benefits.

Felt like I was being run out of the program. Witnessed extreme bias some consumers were allowed to assault others while others were targeted by staff. I have questions on the legality of certain practices. I would recommend finding somewhere more conducive to recovering from mental health crisiss.
