About Potomac Horse Center

Potomac Horse Center's Therapeutic Riding program offers riding lessons for children and adults with a wide range of physical or cognitive challenges. Instructor Nancy Heller - a Certified Therapeutic Instructor registered with the North Atlantic Riding for the Handicapped Association - together with the outstanding help of many trained volunteers, offers lessons that impart riding skills as they emphasize individually designed weekly objectives and long-term goals. We carefully select and train our wonderful horses to meet our riders' needs. All PHC therapeutic mounts are calm and well behaved, truly generous in spirit, and each provides their own unique therapeutic input.

Unfortunately customer service at the front desk is the reason I am leaving. Upon asking for my receipt I was told to check my credit card statements however I need my receipts as my classes are part of credit I receive at work. The receptionist was rude since the get go. A lot of back and forth rude responses rolling eyes and contradictory information laid out to their convenience. I enjoyed my trainer although was told on numerous ocasiones comments on my body which I found disrespectful and unprofessional- from buying my boots to style of pants it was a recurring theme while in class made me self conscious when the point is my form. I felt the classes really last 15 minutes and the rest is spent on getting the horse ready and placing the horse back in the stall etc. I felt I needed to be overly nice to staff and almost apologetic for a 85 dollar private lesson. The receipts were never given which is against Maryland law. I have to find a new place with better customer service and respect for the investment made on each class. Receipts are a must when a class is 85 dollars and when asked for it a customer should never be asked to perform an admin task thats part of the price if each lesson. I was overcharged three times in 14 weeks.

I went here a few years ago and sure i got to ride but if i stayed there i would be walkingtrotting over poles i went to this other place which is AMAZING and had to fix so much bad habits I am now jumping at a great position. Sure its a good - looking stable but what would you want a good - looking stable or can ACTUALLY ride really well. I would pick the second one.The staff is ok but not great i recommend a different place where it does not take you like 8 years or so to get to jumping. I was here for 2 - 3 years and was just canter trot walk. In UNDER a year I am working on a great position and learning courses. This is WAY over priced and if you want to be trotting and walking over poles after 4 - 8 something years be my guest but I sure will not be doing that.

Genuinely based off of friendliness and kindness itself the lady at the desk on November first was really unpleasant and seemed highly annoyed with the 70 seconds it took me to ask her if I could take photos because my sisters used to ride here. I under stand they cant let people do that because people board their horses here. But the way you tell the message matters. The property is lovely.

My kids rode here for 10 yrs...basically outgrew the lessons. We were in the area and stopped by only to find that any of the friendliness the place had before was gone. Now its seemed more for boarding your horse than actually teaching anyone to ride.

I started riding lessons here a few months ago and my experience has been amazing The staff is very friendly helpful and has been flexible with my busy schedule. My instructor Maddie is incredible too Ive been riding my whole life on and off but when I started riding at Potomac Horse Center it was clear my technique desperately needed some help and guidance. Maddie has been so patient and helpful for me her instruction is very on point Shes a pro In only a few months Ive felt a lot of improvement and its all due to Maddies instruction-- ask for her when you sign up for lessonsPotomac Horse Center is very reasonably priced has great schooling horses and lots of lesson opportunities for adults and children in many disciplines and levels of riding. Highly recommend

Potomac Horse center is a wonderful place for young riders or maybe adult riders too My daughter has been riding for 4 years we started at Potomac Horse Center about two years ago and she loves the experience so we switched to PHC officially last year. The instructors are great staffs are very friendly the horses are awesome She already had a few favorite horses... and considering doing shows and competitions...For the people who really loves horses this is a great place to ride and connect to them...

My daughter has been riding at this horse center for 2 years but recently I have decided that she will no longer attend after Ive had repeated negative experiences with the staff member Deb who answers the phones and takes care of scheduling. She is unhelpful and uncooperative when faced with simple questions and quickly resorts to being rude and arrogant instead of trying to remedy my concerns.Of these concerns my biggest was the issue of placement and instructors at Potomac Horse Center. In the past few months my daughter rode at levels Jump I and Jump 2 and after a 6 month hiatus was not allowed to resume at this level and was only given the option to take the beginner jump class. These basic courses are oftentimes full with too many students in a too wide age range and instructors cannot individualize attention to anybody. When I asked Deb if I could speak with the instructor she flat out refused and I believe that she needs to get off her high horse no pun intended and receive customer service training. It is my impression that this center slows progression so that they can make the most money out of you while at the same time making it difficult for you or your child to receive the instruction they need to be able to advance. As for the condition of the horses they seem overworked and oftentimes act up in the ring. There is a high turnover of instructors and unfortunately the good ones dont last very long.In short I would caution you to choose another stable if you value being treated with respect as a customer and want proper riding instruction.
