Lets get straight to the point Im here to shout out about Dr. DesMangles because this doctor is truly special.Dr. DesMangles has this perfect mix of being really careful and direct with his work but you can tell he truly cares about everyone he sees. Hes got a big heart for his job making sure were all on the same page and feeling good about the plan.We started seeing him for my sons growth issues and wow the change has been mind-blowing. My son grew three inches taller in just three months Seeing this kind of magic happen right before our eyes has been nothing short of a miracle. The trip to see him isnt a short onewere talking a drive from Panama City to Fort Walton Beach every three months. But ask me if its worth it Every mile and then some. Id cross countries for my son to keep seeing Dr. DesMangles. If youre on the lookout for a doctor whos not just all talk who really brings results and who treats you like family Dr. DesMangles is your guy. Our experience has been amazing and Im pretty sure youll be just as impressed.

This is not related to the facility but I work for Doordash and I delivered to an employee there by the name of Shanqua. As a dasher we have to follow the instructions provided on the dasher app. Due to traffic and the way it can be on Davis Hwy I had to make a U-turn and it put me about a minute or 2 behind scheduled delivery time which Im sorry about but I did the best I could. I get there and Shanqua starts berating me and going off on me about how I went the wrong way. But why did it matter when she got her food It was literally there and she got it. I have also never delivered here so I dont know how if there is a right way I was just going where Google told me to go. But no she continued to be so nasty to me. It honestly felt like she was just trying to get free food. It was just a really nasty experience with this lady and she actually brought me to tears with how mean she was. Its a wonder she still has a job if she is like this with everyone.

Brought my daughter for nose bleeds shes had for years. Had an issue trying to get scheduled in with another office and asked the PCP for another specialist. This office called me within 2 days of receiving our referral and had an appointment open the next week. Everyone was very friendly and treated us great. My daughter was able to get treated same day. And she even got a treat for her visit. We drove from Santa Rosa Beach and the over 1 hour drive was well worth it.

I am just so disgusted with the behavior of this practices billing department and the way they handle and provide estimates. Ill preface this by saying that I worked as a Biller for an MFM specialty practice 4 years and it was part of my job to provide estimates to our patients. It is so important to include all pertinent information in order to provide patients with the closest estimate possible. We received an estimate of 200 for this surgery. The surgery was scheduled and performed in December 2023. When we received the bill it was for a whopping 2100. I called the office and the employee stated that the estimate was calculated based on the assumption that our deductible was met. Therefore the 200 was the co-insurance amount which would apply to the OOP. Did they even CHECK the deductible amount when calculating the estimate No why would they They wanted their 2100. It was a bait and switch tactic performed by the office so that they could profit more from their patient before the years end.The employee continued to reiterate that this is only an estimate and never a guarantee of benefits. I completely agree with that statement. However when you cant care enough about your job and the services you provide to your patients that you create an estimate based off of missing pertinent information you are failing your patients. Final PTR shouldnt be 1000 off of what the estimate shows.

Recently visited ENT for my newborn for a tongue tie. The staff was very friendly and the ARNP Ms Hudson who performed lingual frenectomy was very kind and friendly. Instantly she was able to put me and my husband at ease.Would recommend if anyone needed to be seen for this.

My 8 year old daughter was struggling with some tummy pains off and on. We made an appointment here to see Dr. Andrea Mejia Sanchez. I was SO very pleased by her and the entire staff They listened and answered all questions thoroughly. My daughter is already beginning to feel better after their recommendations. So thankful for the wisdom and excellent care they provided to us. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Dr. Seiler and staff are amazing. We really felt comfortable the minute walked in. Short wait times. They even had a treat freezer for the kids. There were creamsicles and ice cream to chose from. Yes my 14 year old took advantage of this.

I should have known after a terrible experience in Urology with my youngest son to never come back here but I gave it another try with my oldest son and I will no longer step foot into Nemours. I do not trust the practices or billing taking place at this facility nor do I trust being told that both of my seemingly healthy kids need surgery just to go get a second opinion to be told completely opposite. Each time I have left in tears thinking something is extremely wrong with both of my kids. I got my bill and a consult alone was over 1000 Ive worked in specialty care before and I see exactly what is taking place here. There are things being done to intentionally pocket money and charge above normal charges to pay not ok Nemours and shame on you I just got my bill from the Doctor we saw for a 2nd opinion and her office visit charge same specialty associated with a hospital was only 213 and Cardilogy at Nemours charges 937 Plus charges you not only for a test to be done but also the timing it takes to do the test so when you come to Nemours be sure to double check the charges and make sure you get a Second Opinion at all times

Carl the security officer that works in the building thinks he owns the building and that he can boss everyone and tell them what do. This place will continue to go down as long as he is there. The administration Jennifer didnt make situation no better claiming I threatened staff. Thats a complete lie I threatened no one but I did curse that rental cop security officer out indeed. We will not be going back there at all because we dont want to not because they said so. Horrible customer service. Slow and long wait times. PS by me reading some of the other reviews Im not surprised that CARL the rental cop security officer has caused other problems not just with me. Nemours you guys will see that CARL is the root of the problem when it comes to entering the building and waiting in the waiting area. He will continue to get you guys more bad reviews.

Frequently Asked Questions
Your pediatrician might be able to administer screenings, but most general doctors are not trained to formally diagnose autism. They might refer you to a qualified diagnostic clinician which include:
Developmental Pediatricians
Child Psychologists
Child Psychiatrists
Pediatric Neurologists
Pediatric Neuropsychologists
Your experience might look different depending on the type of clinician you choose. Many families prefer working with developmental pediatricians. Others might work with a psychiatrist or another specialist to get a different perspective.
A formal ASD diagnosis, or a medical diagnosis, helps you get the support your family needs, especially within the context of accessing medically necessary therapies and services.
Insurance Coverage for Therapies: Medically necessary therapies for ASD are often covered by insurance including, but not limited to, speech therapy, ABA therapy, and occupational therapy.
Financial Support: A diagnosis is required when applying for social security or disability benefits.
Plan for Care: A diagnosis helps identify your child’s support needs. For example, your child might need to develop social communication and self-regulation skills.
Future Research: The more data we gather through evaluations, the more we can improve services for autistic children and adults.
Yes, picky and selective eating is actually a quite common concern for children with autism. If you rolled your eyes looking at the steps above because your child with autism has never had a full day's serving of vegetables in their life, you are definitely not alone. As if getting kids to eat their veggies isn’t challenging enough, research shows children with autism have significantly more eating challenges than their peers who are not autistic.
In addition to sensory difficulties that can lead to a lot of anxiety with food, autistic children are 4x more likely to have gastrointestinal issues such as stomach pain and discomfort. This creates the perfect storm for extra extra picky eaters - and a lot of added obstacles and concerns for parents.
The difficulties associated with autistic children and food can cause a wide range of concerns from children being underweight to overweight (overweight children can still be at risk for nutritional deficiencies!). This can lead to slower than normal growth and nutritional deficiencies like low vitamin D and calcium levels. Even when given multivitamins, many children with autism are still found to have some of these nutritional deficiencies.
Here are some tips:
Keep to a schedule - setting schedules for meal and snack time can help picky eaters build up their appetite throughout the day
Minimize distractions - removing distractions like screens and toys can help your child be more engaged at mealtime
Approach new foods together - Make new foods less scary by trying them together. Touching and smelling the food together before tasting it
Support choice & control - Allowing your child to pick which foods they eat will help them feel more in control
It may not seem obvious, but eating is a complex behavior that involves perceptual, emotional, and cognitive processes. And we know that children with autism process things differently. While many of us look forward to things like our afternoon snack, it may be an activity that causes a lot of anxiety for your child.
Parents describe food selectivity being determined by a few of the following factors: texture (69%), appearance (58%), taste (45%), smell (36%), and temperature (22%). Uniform texture, bland and neutral color foods are reported to be overwhelmingly preferred by more than 90% of children with ASD.
Get involved with local organizations, support groups, and professionals specializing in those hard of hearing. They can offer guidance, resources, and opportunities for your kiddo’s development. The more you know, the better you can support your child.
Here are some suggestions to get you started:
Hands & Voices is a parent-driven, nonprofit organization that provides unbiased support, regarding communication methodology and technology, to families with deaf or hard of hearing children.
Gallaudet University — Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center is a federally funded institution offering exemplary academic programs to deaf/HoH students. They provide early intervention services, sign language classes, and uniquely designed resources for deaf/HoH communities.
Hearing Loss Association of America is a nonprofit organization with a mission to open the world of communication to people with hearing loss by providing information, education, support, and advocacy.
More research is needed to understand the link between sleep disturbance and autism, but there are a few possible reasons why autistic children have difficulty sleeping.2
Co-occurring conditions. Coexisting medical conditions like ADHD, anxiety, or sleep apnea (when you stop breathing multiple times throughout the night), environmental allergies, and gastrointestinal upset (like constipation), can negatively impact sleep.
Sensory sensitivities. Sensitivity to lights, sounds, and touch (think textures of blankets and clothing) can disrupt sleep.
Medications. Often autistic children are prescribed medications to address various concerns like hyperactivity, anxiety, or aggression. Many of these medications may contribute to sleep problems. Adderall, Focalin, and Vyvanse are examples of stimulants prescribed to children on the spectrum to treat hyperactivity, impulsivity, and inattention, that can cause insomnia. Abilify and Risperdal (medications commonly prescribed for autistic children who have severe irritability, aggression, and/or self-injurious behaviors) may cause some children to become very sleepy. However, each person responds differently to medications. (Pro tip: Keep channels of communication open with your doctor so that you can find the best medication to help your child that least affects sleep.)
Neurobiological differences. Some research suggests autistic people may not produce the same levels of neurotransmitters (such as serotonin) or hormones (melatonin) important for sleep regulation, and may also experience disruption in circadian rhythms.3 In addition, low muscle tone can contribute to sleep-breathing disorders, such as sleep apnea, which also affects the quality of sleep and can lead to increased inattentive and hyperactive symptoms during the day. These behaviors, in turn, make it more challenging for the child to participate in therapies and activities.
Like anyone else, when children on the spectrum don’t get adequate sleep, they may find it difficult to self-regulate during the day. But there’s another consequence – autistic kids who don’t get enough sleep can experience an increase in stimming, irritability, inattention, difficulty socializing, and keeping up in school.3 They may also face challenges with increased hyperactivity and lack of impulse control. In short, lack of sleep can intensify your child’s existing challenges.
The same goes for parents, too. It’s hard for you to keep your cool and be fully present when you aren’t well-rested.5 As you’ve already found out, good sleep is crucial for everyone in the home.
