We had just recently called the billing center to request information and the front desk lady is rude for no reason. You say please and thank you and you get nothing but a whole lot of attitude. We were asking why certain information wasnt getting passed through that has been getting requested since November it is now February and the women at the desk did nothing but raise her voice and give absolutely 0 information. Finally we said alright have a good day and she said sure and hung up. So professional right Yeah no dont bring your family here if you actually want good care.

Went in today in spite of the negative reviews.Clarification the walk in clinic is for those who have NOT been to primary Dr or urgent care. This seems reasonable as it is for kids that just sustained an injury to be seen quickly but could be worded better on the website. If you have already been seen you need to call and make an appt or I guess you could just go through the whole diagnosis again through walk in and hope your insurance covers it again. That being said I called and was able to get an appt the same morning did check in online and showed up and check in at desk took 2 minutes.Im sure there may have been reasons for the negative reviews but our experience was perfectly fine.

It was a great experience today with the staff at Nemours. Dr. Rambo was very accommodating and Thomas was awesome. He turned my angry 15-year-old into a smiling and now somewhat happy guy. Thank you Thomas and great job on the cast

The moment of receiving medical attention was a nightmare. I arrived with my son at 130 p.m. and was helped at the reception by a blonde girl named Taylor. From the first moment I noticed that she was uncomfortable because I do not speak perfect English I gave her my sons information my information and my health insurance information. I explained to her that my son had suffered a fall and that I had called our pediatrician who recommended that we attend this clinic where they could treat my son due to the orthopedic emergency. I told Taylor my insurance requires a referral from my primary doctor to have coverage and my sons pediatrician faxed the referral to them so she could confirm that we would have coverage from my health insurance. Taylor didnt like this and called another worker Denise who speaks English and Spanish. But they said something in English that I couldnt understand then and Denise began to treat me and my son in a derogatory way. I called my sons pediatricians office to ask for help and explain to Taylor and Denise that they had already sent them the pediatricians referral but Taylor and Denise said they would not take my phone to talk. After Taylor and Denise saw that I handled the information and that my pediatricians office had arranged for fax delivery of the medical referral they told me they would see my son but not an orthopedic doctor because they didnt have time for us. And that they were going to do me a favor but they didnt know what time because my son was not a priority for them. After an hour of waiting Taylor called me to tell me they would see me at the Fleming Island office the next day. I tried to explain our orthopedic emergency to her again but she did not want to talk to me anymore claiming that I do not speak English. Thank God that another receptionist was observing the mistreatment and called me to her workplace to help my son and me. The attention from Taylor and Denise was humiliating. It is not a place where patients are treated with the slightest respect. And if you dont speak the language or are not white they dont serve you decently. I do not recommend it and I hope my son does not have complications due to the mental poverty of these two women who should not be working in the health system where we go with our children not out of pleasure but out of need for medical attention.

My daughter injured her foot playing soccer and was seen at Wildlight UC. We were told to come here to Nemours walk in ortho clinic...no appt needed. So we show up this morning after driving close to an hour to get here only to be told that they would not see her. We were told to go home and make an appointment even though they do have a walk-in clinic that is open this morning.

THEY DO NOT TAKE WALK-INS THEY LIED ON THEIR WEBSITE. If youve already gone to any Urgent Care and tell them they WILL NOT take your child in WITHOUT AN APPOINTMENT because they wont make enough money off of your visit. My daughter limped out of there with a broken ankle that they refused to treat because we had already gone to Urgent Care so less for them. They could care less about the patient...they just want your money. If I could have given 0 stars I would. Shame on them for FALSE ADVERTISING on their website that they take walk-in orthopedic care. I am beyond disgusted This practice is money hungry AVOID at all costs Just keep scrolling through all the other terrible reviews and youll understand. So disappointed...

I would give 0 stars if I could. The front desk is the most incompetent group Ive ever encountered. We waited 45 min to be checked in then shoved in a room in the back for two hours waiting for a doctor I had to leave because my daughter is highly special needs and we were not planning for an almost 3 hour wait time. I tried rescheduling and was given attitude by the front desk one nurse told me she didnt even know who we were and no one helped me to get a new appointment time. I took time off work for nothing and was treated awful at this location. They need to do some serious retraining here. Wanted to add the entire time you wait the front desk staff talks about how much they hate their job hate the new system and give everyone trying to check in an attitude. The disrespect toward parents of medically complex children is disgusting.

my daughter hasnt even had a chance to be a patient here but after scheduling our appointment 2 months ago and then the day of THEY cancel the appointment and they cant even give me a reason why and then have the nerve to say we arent able to reschedule until 2 more months from now almost 3 based off of these other reviews im seeing we arent the only ones either ive never been to an office that did this. this is beyond rude ridiculous it took over a month just for the referral to be received and then the extra 2 months to finally get our appointment. no doctor is worth seeing after a situation like this. couldnt even attempt to squeeze us in anywhere else after waiting that long. would never recommend to anyone.

Frequently Asked Questions
Speech therapy is almost always recommended for autistic children since many people with autism have difficulty with social communication. Even if a child is very verbal and says a lot of words, they might need to work on communication skills like:
responding to questions
starting or ending conversation
changing conversation topics
using gestures like pointing
understanding other people's body language
Speech therapy is a big focus in early intervention for autistic children and is usually the starting place for recently diagnosed kids. There is a critical period in the brain for language development and so, it's really important to teach language and communication skills as early as possible, especially if there are any delays in that area. Your child will learn effective ways to communicate which will help them grow into more independent and confident individuals.
It might be obvious when a child struggles with speaking —they are very quiet, say only a few words, or don't speak at all.
Spot speech and language delays like a doctor here.
The goal of speech therapy is to help your child communicate effectively with other people across all environments. This may take the form of using gestures, simple signs, verbal speech, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
Some other common things speech therapists can help with:
Nonverbal skills, such as signs or gestures
Forming speech in a clearer way
Communicating thoughts and feelings clearly
Understanding and responding to questions
Discerning facial expressions and their corresponding emotions
Noticing and understanding body language
Feeding and swallowing
Stuttering
Your pediatrician might be able to administer screenings, but most general doctors are not trained to formally diagnose autism. They might refer you to a qualified diagnostic clinician which include:
Developmental Pediatricians
Child Psychologists
Child Psychiatrists
Pediatric Neurologists
Pediatric Neuropsychologists
Your experience might look different depending on the type of clinician you choose. Many families prefer working with developmental pediatricians. Others might work with a psychiatrist or another specialist to get a different perspective.
A formal ASD diagnosis, or a medical diagnosis, helps you get the support your family needs, especially within the context of accessing medically necessary therapies and services.
Insurance Coverage for Therapies: Medically necessary therapies for ASD are often covered by insurance including, but not limited to, speech therapy, ABA therapy, and occupational therapy.
Financial Support: A diagnosis is required when applying for social security or disability benefits.
Plan for Care: A diagnosis helps identify your child’s support needs. For example, your child might need to develop social communication and self-regulation skills.
Future Research: The more data we gather through evaluations, the more we can improve services for autistic children and adults.
When you visit a neurologist, they’ll assess your child’s needs, run some tests (think imaging or EEG), and diagnose. From there, they’ll create a customized treatment plan. Medication, lifestyle tweaks, or maybe even a referral to another specialist could be on the table.
There unfortunately isn’t one test for all neurodevelopmental conditions. Most likely you will go into a visit to test one or two medical conditions. If you are looking for a comprehensive autism evaluation, developmental pediatricians, psychologists, or neuropsychologists are the preferred specialists who can diagnose autism.
No, neurologists focus mainly on non-surgical interventions. If your child needs surgery, neurologists might point you in the direction of a pediatric neurosurgeon.
Yes, picky and selective eating is actually a quite common concern for children with autism. If you rolled your eyes looking at the steps above because your child with autism has never had a full day's serving of vegetables in their life, you are definitely not alone. As if getting kids to eat their veggies isn’t challenging enough, research shows children with autism have significantly more eating challenges than their peers who are not autistic.
In addition to sensory difficulties that can lead to a lot of anxiety with food, autistic children are 4x more likely to have gastrointestinal issues such as stomach pain and discomfort. This creates the perfect storm for extra extra picky eaters - and a lot of added obstacles and concerns for parents.
The difficulties associated with autistic children and food can cause a wide range of concerns from children being underweight to overweight (overweight children can still be at risk for nutritional deficiencies!). This can lead to slower than normal growth and nutritional deficiencies like low vitamin D and calcium levels. Even when given multivitamins, many children with autism are still found to have some of these nutritional deficiencies.
Here are some tips:
Keep to a schedule - setting schedules for meal and snack time can help picky eaters build up their appetite throughout the day
Minimize distractions - removing distractions like screens and toys can help your child be more engaged at mealtime
Approach new foods together - Make new foods less scary by trying them together. Touching and smelling the food together before tasting it
Support choice & control - Allowing your child to pick which foods they eat will help them feel more in control
