We have really enjoyed our experience with MTC. My son had a therapist he looked forward to connecting with on a weekly basis and made some great improvements.

You will see I rarely right reviews but what this place did to my child our therapist was horrible. 1st the person your child will be working wdaily has no credentials or degree. If you get a good therapist they will constantly be leaving due to poor treatment poor managementsee glass door reviews. This inconsistency of changing therapist is extremely hard for an autistic child. Some people they hire I would not even hire to babysit my neurotypical child much less be by autisticADHD child therapist. They billed our insurance as we saw the BCBA but we were actually seeing the RBT. Just beware as we spent a few yrs hoping it would get better but when we finally had 2 good therapist they quit do to poor treatment. They drug my son in the clinic one day told me if we didnt let them he would not get better. He spiraled saying he wanted to die so they called an ambulance instead of calling me. It cost me 2400 in total. All because he had a different therapist all the time and Raquel the head of the clinic treated us like it was out fault. She is cold as ice.

I am so incredibly grateful for MTC and their staff. I felt lost when I found out my daughter was behind in speech. I am so thankful for her speech therapist Christine Because of her expertise and kindness my daughter has progressed at a rate I would have never expected. Mrs. Chris comes to her preschool twice a week to work with her. Those sessions are my daughters favorite part of her week. I cannot thank MTC and Mrs. Chris enough.

We enlisted the help of MTC to help with our sons speech delay and cannot express enough how thankful and grateful we are to have found them. Nicole is absolutely amazing - she is on the ball all the time extremely responsive and truly cares about the overall well-being of our son. In working with her she provides solutions-driven approaches to accelerating his overall growth and development she looks broadly at the whole child to help get to the root of the problem vs. narrowly focusing on only treating the delay while also making sure we are well-educated and informed on all that is available to us outside of MTC services i.e school system. Shes passionate about her work and weve seen significant progress with our son as we move from a speech delay to him becoming on-par with his peers. The best part is that insurance covers the sessions and they travel to where our son is whether thats preschool during the school year or day camp during the summer. Missy in the office handles all the paperwork coordination between the schools and onsite scheduling with the teachers - a huge help to us as logistics planning can be exhausting She gets things done before we even have a chance to ask the question and is very supportive always going above and beyond. The entire team at MTC makes everything so simple and easy my husband and I cant thank them enough We HIGHLY recommend

My son had a very positive experience with Ms. Julie for OT. He was having a rough time with sensory regulation seeking and control with emotionsimpulsive behavior. She worked with him for a year and his behavior improved at preschool and at home. She is very kind and patient but stern when he needed it. She was extremely helpful with any information I needed as a parent and always made time to talk to me after sessions and through email. He looked forward to seeing her every week. Unfortunately due to issues with insurance coverage he is no longer seeing her which has caused some regression. I wish my son was still receiving this service it was a huge benefit and I would recommend MTC to any family looking for OT. Also would like to add that I always had a good experience with the office ladies any questions or concerns with billinginsurancesessions they were always very helpful.

Our child attends practice care school and MTCs therapists have been a wonderful alternative to speech therapy at CDH or through the school district. We had tried to obtain services through our school district but after months of jumping through hoops which included interviews with our sons Catholic school teacher and an evaluation done at CDH by a liscensed speech therapist who both determined our son NEEDED speech therapy the district wasnt giving us an answer on if theyd give him services. MTC therapists work on site at our sons school around his teachers our familys schedules. They meet us over the summer locally at the library or at school so theres never a break in services. The therapists are knowledgeable and very well trained. They are Very fun and kind to our son.

As a private not-for-profit school in Gurnee having an option for our school and families such as Mobile Therapy is very beneficial. Children who have developmental delays or challenges growing up require early intervention. The professionals at MTC who we have come to trust provide free screenings and an availability of therapy during the school day. I highly recommend MTC for their services their professional friendly staff as well as the convenience of their scheduling.

Frequently Asked Questions
Speech therapy is almost always recommended for autistic children since many people with autism have difficulty with social communication. Even if a child is very verbal and says a lot of words, they might need to work on communication skills like:
responding to questions
starting or ending conversation
changing conversation topics
using gestures like pointing
understanding other people's body language
Speech therapy is a big focus in early intervention for autistic children and is usually the starting place for recently diagnosed kids. There is a critical period in the brain for language development and so, it's really important to teach language and communication skills as early as possible, especially if there are any delays in that area. Your child will learn effective ways to communicate which will help them grow into more independent and confident individuals.
It might be obvious when a child struggles with speaking —they are very quiet, say only a few words, or don't speak at all.
Spot speech and language delays like a doctor here.
The goal of speech therapy is to help your child communicate effectively with other people across all environments. This may take the form of using gestures, simple signs, verbal speech, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
Some other common things speech therapists can help with:
Nonverbal skills, such as signs or gestures
Forming speech in a clearer way
Communicating thoughts and feelings clearly
Understanding and responding to questions
Discerning facial expressions and their corresponding emotions
Your pediatrician might be able to administer screenings, but most general doctors are not trained to formally diagnose autism. They might refer you to a qualified diagnostic clinician which include:
Developmental Pediatricians
Child Psychologists
Child Psychiatrists
Pediatric Neurologists
Pediatric Neuropsychologists
Your experience might look different depending on the type of clinician you choose. Many families prefer working with developmental pediatricians. Others might work with a psychiatrist or another specialist to get a different perspective.
A formal ASD diagnosis, or a medical diagnosis, helps you get the support your family needs, especially within the context of accessing medically necessary therapies and services.
Insurance Coverage for Therapies: Medically necessary therapies for ASD are often covered by insurance including, but not limited to, speech therapy, ABA therapy, and occupational therapy.
Financial Support: A diagnosis is required when applying for social security or disability benefits.
Plan for Care: A diagnosis helps identify your child’s support needs. For example, your child might need to develop social communication and self-regulation skills.
Future Research: The more data we gather through evaluations, the more we can improve services for autistic children and adults.
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT): CBT helps by identifying and changing unhelpful thoughts and behaviors. It's useful for those dealing with social anxiety or difficulties. CBT addresses cognitive patterns and provides strategies to manage social challenges.
Group therapy: Group therapy offers a supportive space where individuals can practice social skills. They can feedback from peers and a therapist. It allows interaction with others who understand and learn from each other.
Play-based interventions: Play therapy or play-based interventions work well for younger children or those who learn through experiences. Play activities target specific social skills like turn-taking and problem-solving in a safe and engaging setting.
The occupational therapy process includes an OT evaluation before care starts. Here are the four steps your family can expect when starting occupational therapy:
Complete OT evaluation. An occupational therapist first identifies your child’s strengths and needs through a thorough OT evaluation, also known as an OT assessment or screening. You’ll answer questions about your child’s skills, and your child will most likely demonstrate their skills via hands-on activities with the therapist. Evaluations can last 30 minutes to a few hours.
Approve OT plan. The therapist develops a care plan with individualized goals and customized interventions based on your child’s needs. You can also share any specific goals or concerns before approving the OT plan.
Start therapy sessions. The therapist works directly with your child and your family, using various strategies and exercises to systematically improve areas of limitations and to build upon a child’s strengths. Some exercises your child might participate in are animal walks, obstacle courses, and therapy swing activities. Your family may learn strategies for supporting your child’s individualized needs at home, such as ways of supporting emotional regulation and sensory processing. The therapist may also recommend tools and techniques to use at home, in the community, or in the classroom to help your child succeed.
Monitor your child’s progress. Parents and caregivers can expect ongoing progress monitoring and communication to ensure the child is achieving their short and long-term goals.
Occupational therapy can also be provided virtually via telemedicine. Virtual therapy is a great option for families in rural areas who may not have access to in-person services, or for families who prefer to have therapy in their child’s home.
Virtual OT allows the opportunity for increased caregiver participation and understanding of a child’s strengths, areas of improvement, and generalization of skills in the child’s home environment. Virtual therapy also provides increased opportunities for caregiver and family education to support the child and the family based on each family’s needs.
