Introduction
Hi! I’m Melissa Santos, a bilingual speech-language pathologist passionate about helping children develop their communication skills with confidence. I have experience working with children as young as 16 months through their teenage years, supporting a variety of speech and language needs, including articulation disorders, receptive-expressive language delays, and autism spectrum disorder. My therapeutic approach is child-led, play-based, and highly individualized to meet each child’s unique needs. I strive to empower parents with the tools and strategies to best support their child’s growth beyond our sessions—because you are your child’s best resource!
What words would you use to describe yourself?
Empathetic
Supportive
Dynamic
Empathetic: I prioritize understanding each child's individual needs and creating a space that is both supportive and adaptable. I approach therapy with a deep sensitivity to the child’s emotions and developmental pace, fostering a trusting, responsive environment.
Supportive: I would define myself as supportive because I actively create an environment where both the child and the parents feel guided and encouraged. I provide ongoing support by equipping parents to continue nurturing their child’s growth outside of sessions, reinforcing that they are not alone in this journey.
Dynamic: I would define myself as dynamic because my approach is flexible, adaptable, and responsive to the evolving needs of each child. By tailoring sessions to meet the unique requirements of every child, I stay engaged and present, adjusting techniques as necessary to foster growth.
Who are you best positioned to serve?
I am best positioned to support children with early intervention needs, mixed receptive-expressive language delays, articulation or phonological disorders, and developmental delays, including autism. I help all children, irregardless of diagnosis, to express themselves in ways that feel natural, whether through speech, AAC, or other forms of communication. Stuttering and craniofacial anomalies are not my primary areas of expertise; as a result, families seeking support in these areas may benefit from a therapist with specialized training, and I am happy to help guide them to the right resources.
