Introduction
Hi, I’m Melissa, a bilingual pediatric speech-language pathologist (SLP) offering speech and language services in English and Spanish for children ages 2–10 in Chula Vista and surrounding South County communities. My approach is child-led, strengths-based, family-centered, and culturally responsive, with a special passion for supporting bilingual families in my community. I love helping little ones produce their first words, encouraging multimodal communication, celebrating each child’s unique strengths and differences, and building meaningful connections with families. I place a strong emphasis on parent coaching, giving caregivers practical strategies they can use during everyday interactions to support their child’s speech & language development. Outside of therapy, you can find me walking my beagle, Navi, exploring local restaurants & beaches, or spending time with family.
What words would you use to describe yourself?
I strive to create a warm and welcoming experience where children feel comfortable being themselves and learning at their own pace, whether at home, in the community or through virtual sessions. I recognize that every child and family has unique strengths, experiences, and cultural backgrounds, and I value taking the time to listen, connect, and understand each family’s needs and values. I believe progress starts with trust, meaningful connections, and celebrating every little win. My goal is to provide culturally responsive care that helps families feel understood, empowered, and supported throughout their speech and language journey.
Who are you best positioned to serve?
I’m best positioned to support children ages 2–10 with early communication and language development, bilingual language development, receptive and expressive language disorders, speech sound disorders, AAC, and gestalt language processing. I especially love helping little ones learn their first words and empowering bilingual families through a family-centered approach.
I’m not as well-positioned to serve children whose primary needs involve apraxia, stuttering, feeding and swallowing, or voice and vocal health disorders. When a child needs specialized support in these areas, I’m happy to connect families with an SLP who has expertise in that area.
