Introduction

My name is Mary Lou, and I'm a pediatric SLP based in Pacifica, serving kids from birth to 18. Through child-led and play-based therapy, my goal is to meet your child where they are, identify the support they need, and provide coaching to parents, who are a critical part of their child’s progress.

I love kids, communication, and learning. I bring years of teaching experience as an ESL teacher, plus insights and understanding from my own parenting journey. My sessions are engaging for kids, responsive to their regulation or sensory needs, thoughtful and neurodiversity-affirming.

As executive functioning is the basis for learning, I work to help a child strengthen their skills of perception, planning, working memory, and attention. Whether modeling train sounds for my late talkers, customizing an AAC device for a minimally speaking child, helping a child learn to visualize words when they read, or targeting 100 productions of a target sound, I’m aiming for connection and support.

What words would you use to describe yourself?

Supportive
Compassionate
Positive
Supportive: I'm a parent, so I know how parents long to see their child thrive. But when you see a need in their development, you want that extra support. I like to share ideas and empower parents to help their child grow stronger through the challenge.

Compassionate: I pursue connection with every child, playing with them at their level, helping them feel safe and connected, to communicate freely.

Positive: Whether it's blowing bubbles to model "more," helping a student organize ideas for an essay, or teaching a child how to make the TH sound, I like to smile often, listen with care, and celebrate small wins during each session.

Who are you best positioned to serve?

I'm positioned to serve kids who have communication needs in the areas of expressive language, articulation, AAC, late talkers, executive functioning, literacy, academic skills, social-emotional learning, and gestalt language processors. I love working with a variety of different ages, in-home, at the library, at school, or in other community spaces.

    Beaming Review

We absolutely LOVED working with Mary Lou for nearly two years - she is a highly educated, highly professional, speech therapist. She met my son where he was in every session. She also became a tremendous resource to me as the parent - not only in speech related topics, but also for parenting in general. Mary Lou provided handouts weekly to me, and an extra set to give to my daycare providers / teachers so we could all model language for my son the same way. Ultimately, my son grew SO much thanks to Mary Lou, and while I'm happy to have met our speech goals, I will miss working with her! I truly can't recommend her enough!

Mary Lou is a gem. She worked with my son for almost two years during her training. Her experience with special needs is evident in her bedside manner. She is friendly, outgoing, and very in tune with what the specific child needs. She is an all around lovely human.

Mary Lou was a godsend to us when we worried our daughter was struggling to keep up with her peers in her speech abilities. Our daughter is generally shy with new adults but took to Mary Lou readily and would talk about her in between sessions. We’ve since graduated from speech therapy a year ago but our daughter still talks about Mary Lou to this day. Mary Lou has such a nurturing approach, we’re certain she can charm any child she works with. Mary Lou was also quick to respond and provide feedback of our child’s progress and any testing results. She helped to alleviate a lot of the anxieties we had with our daughter. We would highly recommend Mary Lou!
