Introduction
Hi! I’m Maiya, a speech-language pathologist who specializes in literacy from an SLP perspective, with a strong emphasis on oral language foundations. I support children by targeting the core language skills that underlie reading and writing, including phonological awareness, vocabulary, sentence structure, decoding, encoding, and written expression. I often work with children who have dyslexia, language-based learning differences, or are neurodivergent. My approach is evidence-based, strengths-driven, and highly individualized, with the goal of building confident communicators, readers, and writers in a supportive and engaging environment.
What words would you use to describe yourself?
Flexible
Compassionate
Reflective
I describe myself as flexible, compassionate, and growth-oriented because these qualities guide how I show up in my work every day. Being flexible allows me to adapt instruction to each child’s unique language and literacy needs, adjusting strategies as progress and challenges emerge. Compassion shapes how I build trust with students and families, creating a supportive environment where learning feels safe and encouraging. Being growth-oriented reflects my commitment to ongoing learning as an SLP, staying current with evidence-based practices so I can provide thoughtful, effective literacy and oral language support.
Who are you best positioned to serve?
I am best positioned to support children who struggle with literacy due to underlying language needs. I often work with students with dyslexia, language-based learning differences, and neurodivergent learners who need explicit, structured support in reading and writing. I also serve children who have strong ideas but difficulty expressing them clearly through spoken or written language. From an SLP perspective, I focus on strengthening oral language foundations to support decoding, comprehension, and written expression, partnering closely with families to create meaningful, individualized progress.
