Development monitoring observes how your child grows and changes over time, and whether your child meets the typical developmental milestones in playing, learning, speaking, behaving, and moving. Developmental screening is more formal than developmental monitoring and is normally done less often than developmental monitoring. Your child should be screened if you or your doctor have a concern. However, developmental screening is a regular part of some of the well-child visits for all children even if there is not a known concern. (CDC Website 8/8/2023)

Lorestry is the only monitoring tool for parents to facilitate record keeping and on-demand development progression reports. In 2022, the CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics called for the development of new tools for development monitoring.

Your child with autism has a time window when ABA and other supportive services such as OT/PT and speech are most effective. Lorestry helps you capture time stamped developmental progression that includes video, images, and your notes.

If your employer sponsored health plan or school is providing ABA or other services, but your child isn't making meaningful progress, your Lorestry dataset can be a powerful way for you to advocate for change and request additional services.

One of the reasons the CDC and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) called for the development of monitoring tools is a decades long lack of early referrals, and significant time delays from parent first reported concern to time of diagnosis in the case of autism and other conditions that impact early development.

The CDC/AAP report that while 20% of all children will be diagnosed with a developmental delay by the time they reach age 5 (starting school), less than 3% of children receive early intervention services. 17% of all children fall through the cracks in our current model of care.

On average, a review of Electronic Health Records shows there is a 3-year delay from time of parent first concern reported to a provider and a diagnosis. Most parents recognize a problem by age 2 but the average age of diagnosis is 5.

Parents can enter a daily observation of their child's mental health, a photo of the day, milestones, firsts, favorites, comfort, sleep patterns, and other events. But parents create a valuable data set through the act of monitoring even if done monthly.

Lorestry includes a comfort tracker for consistent measuring. Because many children with autism have communication delays and may have altered pain experiences, we feel this is a vital measure for parents to capture.

Lorestry administers the Parent Needs Scale for Autism and Related Disorders to support understanding of how we can improve health quality and care for families as part of our advocacy efforts.

Even if a provider offers parent training, it may look different from one provider to another. For example, an in-home provider might conduct a parent training session directly following a therapy session with your child to help explain what they’ve been working on with your child. At larger organizations, you might have a support group of families who are dealing with similar issues.
