The absolute worst If I could give this place zero stars I would but my review wouldnt post without giving this place at least 1 star. My daughter was a patient of this center and they are simply the worst prior to the COVID-19 outbreak I had no issues with the center. After COVID everything went remote and things fell apart quickly virtual meetings where they were many issues with the meetings occurring on time Wi-Fi issues and cancellations from the center. Yet somehow my daughter was now labeled a problem mostly due to a clerical error where they had my home phone number which was disconnected years ago as the primary contact source. This led to us being deemed uncooperative by the provider unbeknownst to our family To the point where over a year ago my daughter who needs psychiatric medication was callously and negligently cut off from her psychiatric medications without any concern or compassion for her overall mental health and well being When I became aware of this and tried to reasonably explain the misunderstanding I was met with callousness and my concerns for my autistic daughter were dismissed How people who claim to be in the medical field can be so callous and cold is borderline criminal I even appealed to the director of the center and he said she would not be seen at this center anymore with no referrals to another special needs psychiatric doctor for her to be cared for.

If it wasnt for Dr Farmer and lack of special needs drs elsewhere Id go somewhere else. I used to call LISH our safety net our comfort zone in a difficult world of special needs. They implement a call center which took away from the person on the phone knowing us. Half the people arent even in the U.S. I dread calling its like pulling teeth to get information. The office is now so clinical like a factory assembly in and out. No greetings with a smile no hows this or that then sit in waiting area no personality or personal experience. My only comfort is Dr Farmer. Its disgusting and sad this place has become an assembly line. Shame on you LISH for the now unwelcoming experiences in an already broken unsupportive system. You stood above everything special need patients and families experienced in the roken system world now you contribute to it.

I called this facility to try to make an appt and the staff that answer the phone was extremely unhelpful and unprofessional. I am in an emergency at the time struggled to even find a provider. Coleen answered the phone and questioned me on my insurance coverage when I had already explained to her that I had done my research and gotten this dr. through my insurance. She wanted me to call the insurance again. Secondly she refused to make the appt - without filling out paperwork first - she offered to mail them or fax them I dont have a fax machine and mail takes a long time. I go to doctors all the time and first I get an appt and then I fill out paperwork. This is a medical emergency and she wanted me to waste more time. Terrible staff

I think theyre just OK. I went to see Dr. Perrier to get a filling only to get a temporary filling then to be be told I have to get a root canal. The dentistry is for the birds they should get their act together and be honest with the patient and their staff at the procedure that is going to be done is done not say something else and refer them to another specialist. Its crazy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Speech therapy is almost always recommended for autistic children since many people with autism have difficulty with social communication. Even if a child is very verbal and says a lot of words, they might need to work on communication skills like:
responding to questions
starting or ending conversation
changing conversation topics
using gestures like pointing
understanding other people's body language
Speech therapy is a big focus in early intervention for autistic children and is usually the starting place for recently diagnosed kids. There is a critical period in the brain for language development and so, it's really important to teach language and communication skills as early as possible, especially if there are any delays in that area. Your child will learn effective ways to communicate which will help them grow into more independent and confident individuals.
It might be obvious when a child struggles with speaking —they are very quiet, say only a few words, or don't speak at all.
Spot speech and language delays like a doctor here.
The goal of speech therapy is to help your child communicate effectively with other people across all environments. This may take the form of using gestures, simple signs, verbal speech, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
Some other common things speech therapists can help with:
Nonverbal skills, such as signs or gestures
Forming speech in a clearer way
Communicating thoughts and feelings clearly
Understanding and responding to questions
Discerning facial expressions and their corresponding emotions
Noticing and understanding body language
Feeding and swallowing
Stuttering
Use visual aids. You can use picture schedules, videos, social stories, and other visual aids to show your child what to expect.
Take your child for a practice visit. This can be the same as the orientation visit, or it can be a “dry run” of an appointment where the dentist doesn’t actually work on your child’s teeth yet.
Bring items to fulfill sensory needs. Bringing your child’s favorite fidgets and toys so they can play during the appointment will be helpful.
Reduce unnecessary stress before and after. Reduce demands by wearing comfortable clothes, getting lots of rest, eliminating unnecessary activities (like grocery shopping — order for pick up!), and doing the things that relax your child. Your child will be able to regulate better when every day stressors are kept at a minimum.
Yes, a psychiatrist is a good person to speak with regarding medication for your child. While you might have an idea of what might work for your child, it’s best to have a conversation with a medical professional, such as a psychiatrist. What works for one autistic child may not work for another, so consider your child’s individual needs and goals.
If you’d like to explore prescription medications or supplements for your child, weigh your options and concerns with your child’s medical team and create a plan. Discuss developments and side effects with your child’s doctor and adjust as needed.
When you visit a neurologist, they’ll assess your child’s needs, run some tests (think imaging or EEG), and diagnose. From there, they’ll create a customized treatment plan. Medication, lifestyle tweaks, or maybe even a referral to another specialist could be on the table.
There unfortunately isn’t one test for all neurodevelopmental conditions. Most likely you will go into a visit to test one or two medical conditions. If you are looking for a comprehensive autism evaluation, developmental pediatricians, psychologists, or neuropsychologists are the preferred specialists who can diagnose autism.
No, neurologists focus mainly on non-surgical interventions. If your child needs surgery, neurologists might point you in the direction of a pediatric neurosurgeon.
A mental health professional (such as a pediatric psychologist) can help concerns around anxiety, depression, trauma, eating disorders, ADHD, behavioral challenges, OCD, grief/loss.
The occupational therapy process includes an OT evaluation before care starts. Here are the four steps your family can expect when starting occupational therapy:
Complete OT evaluation. An occupational therapist first identifies your child’s strengths and needs through a thorough OT evaluation, also known as an OT assessment or screening. You’ll answer questions about your child’s skills, and your child will most likely demonstrate their skills via hands-on activities with the therapist. Evaluations can last 30 minutes to a few hours.
Approve OT plan. The therapist develops a care plan with individualized goals and customized interventions based on your child’s needs. You can also share any specific goals or concerns before approving the OT plan.
Start therapy sessions. The therapist works directly with your child and your family, using various strategies and exercises to systematically improve areas of limitations and to build upon a child’s strengths. Some exercises your child might participate in are animal walks, obstacle courses, and therapy swing activities. Your family may learn strategies for supporting your child’s individualized needs at home, such as ways of supporting emotional regulation and sensory processing. The therapist may also recommend tools and techniques to use at home, in the community, or in the classroom to help your child succeed.
Monitor your child’s progress. Parents and caregivers can expect ongoing progress monitoring and communication to ensure the child is achieving their short and long-term goals.
