I just wanted to take a moment to share some thoughts about our experience with our speech therapist Ms. Liz Zyzo who has been working with our son over the past year. We couldnt be happier with the progress our little one has made and we owe a huge thanks to Liz.First of all Liz has shown incredible patience and dedication throughout this journey. Not only knowledgeable she is gifted and talented with kids. Working with a child whos learning to improve their speech isnt always a walk in the park but shes been a rock. She never rushed our son and always made sure he felt comfortable and encouraged during every session. I am so thankful to her.I mom always forgets the date and time of our sessions I always fail to send the sign -off sheets I am always late and skipping sessions last minute. But Liz never failed to show empathy. She is very patient and understanding dealing not only with my child but also with me. She would always send a reminder so I wont miss any class giving make up sessions to fill our absence. Sending resources that I can use to follow through after sessions teaching me techniques that I have never known before. I feel empowered because of all the knowledge that she shared with me. She is the most patient and kind person I know.About my son we have concerns with his development he wont respond to his name or make any eye contact. He doesnt talk or use any words. But since Liz started theres been a huge change. Its pretty amazing how much our son has improved. Hes gained so much confidence in his speech and its all thanks to Lizs hard work and expertise. Her methods are effective and she knows just how to make the learning process fun and engaging for kids. My son is now talking making 8 word sentences reading and doing math at the age of 2 communicating his wants and needs and is always happy chatting. I never would have imagined my son being like this. No more signs of autism. So we wholeheartedly recommend Ms. Liz Zyzo to anyone seeking a speech therapist. Her commitment to her work and her passion for helping kids improve their speech is truly commendable. We feel lucky and blessed to have had her as our sons speech therapist and we cant thank her enough for the positive impact shes had on our family. So if youre in search of a speech therapist who is not only highly skilled but also incredibly patient and caring take it from me look no further than Liz Zyzo. Shes the real deal and we cant thank her enough for all that shes done for our son.
We have been working with Liz for a year now and I just came here to recommend her for any child struggling with their speech. My son is 2 years old almost three and he is also being evaluated for autism. At the beginning of speech I will be honest I did not expect much from my son. Now he is speaking more than I expected of him and we can UNDERSTAND HIM. During zoom meetings my son can be a lot to handle and Liz handles it like a professional. Liz never gets frustrated and ALWAYS works with us. She also accommodate our times for that Im especially thankful for. Sometimes I cancel on the last minute or Im running late Or I just have a question in general and Liz will always accommodate our family and make time for us. We are so proud of our son and thankful for Liz for every new word sound pronunciation of letters and so much more she has taught our son.
Liz our family is forever grateful for you. Thank you for going above and beyond for my child. It wasnt always easy with my son but you never gave up and kept a positive attitude through it all. You taught my son in a way he could understand. In the beginning my son wasnt able to ask his teachers for help due to them not understanding him BUT now a year later and thanks to you Liz he can have a mini conversation. Perfect for a 3 year old. I would recommend Liz to any other parent trying to better their child speech. You are also a wonderful person.

Frequently Asked Questions
Speech therapy is almost always recommended for autistic children since many people with autism have difficulty with social communication. Even if a child is very verbal and says a lot of words, they might need to work on communication skills like:
- responding to questions
- starting or ending conversation
- changing conversation topics
- using gestures like pointing
- understanding other people's body language
Speech therapy is a big focus in early intervention for autistic children and is usually the starting place for recently diagnosed kids. There is a critical period in the brain for language development and so, it's really important to teach language and communication skills as early as possible, especially if there are any delays in that area. Your child will learn effective ways to communicate which will help them grow into more independent and confident individuals.
It might be obvious when a child struggles with speaking —they are very quiet, say only a few words, or don't speak at all.

The goal of speech therapy is to help your child communicate effectively with other people across all environments. This may take the form of using gestures, simple signs, verbal speech, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
Some other common things speech therapists can help with:
- Nonverbal skills, such as signs or gestures
- Forming speech in a clearer way
- Communicating thoughts and feelings clearly
- Understanding and responding to questions
- Discerning facial expressions and their corresponding emotions
- Noticing and understanding body language
- Feeding and swallowing
- Stuttering
“Early Intervention” might be the provider’s way of describing services that they provide to babies or young children. However, it might also indicate that the provider is a vendor for your state’s publicly funded program. This means the services with this provider might be covered by your state!
The first step in accessing these free services from your state is to get an evaluation. The evaluation will help the state determine what services your child qualifies for, if any. You can find your state’s local EI program by clicking here.
When you contact your local center, say “I have concerns about my child’s development and I would like to have my child evaluated to find out if they are eligible for early intervention services.” They will ask screening questions and arrange for an evaluation, which is provided for free.
