Introduction

Hi, I'm Laura Obuchowski, a speech-language pathologist based in Fort Worth, TX. I work with children, teens, and adults ages 2 to 99, meeting each person right where they are. My approach is play- and interests-based, strengths-focused, evidence-based, neurodiversity-affirming, and trauma-informed. I specialize in early intervention, language development, AAC and assistive technology, social communication, and supporting teens and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I love empowering families, making therapy genuinely fun, and helping clients access language and communication in ways that improve their quality of life and grow their independence.

What words would you use to describe yourself?

Kind
Knowedgeable
Curious
Kind, knowledgeable, and curious are the first three words that come to mind, though the people I work with usually throw "funny" in there too. I try to bring warmth and humor into every session so our speech therapy sessions feel more like a connected partnership rather than progressing through a checklist of my objectives. I lean on solid, evidence-based expertise, but I stay curious, always asking questions, watching closely, and adapting to whoever's in front of me that day. That curiosity keeps me learning alongside my clients and families instead of assuming I already have the answes. At the end of the day, I want the people I work with to feel seen, heard, and valued; I want them to feel empowered by their communication progress and skill development, and I want them to see/feel meaningful gains that contribute to enhanced quality of life and independence.

Who are you best positioned to serve?

I'm best positioned to serve:
-toddlers, children, adolescents, and teens who need support with language development, literacy, and social communication
-adults navigating life with an intellectual or developmental disability who need support with language/functional communication, literacy, and social communication
-limited- and unreliably-speaking, non-speaking individuals who need an AAC device, or who already have an AAC device
-families who are committed to being active participants in therapy sessions
My play- and interests-based, strengths-focused, neurodiversity-affirming approach fits families looking for a true partner in therapy, not just a provider.

I'm not as well-positioned to serve:
-clients whose primary need is feeding, swallowing, or oral-motor/myofunctional therapy
-clients whose primary need is related to voice disorders
-clients whose families are unable to commit to being active participants in our therapy sessions
For families seeking these services, I'm always glad to help point them toward an SLP who specializes in that area.
