My boys attended Kindercare for all of 2 months before I removed them from the center effective immediately. We had similar experiences as past posters in the 2 months my kids attended this daycare the director office manager and three teachers quit two of the exiting teachers happen to be my kids teachers. They place all children in a bubble and expect them to all act the same which is ridiculous for a group of pre-schoolers. Especially when there is zero consistency due to changing rules classroom to classroom and high turnover. One of my kids loved their old school but cried everyday on the way to Kindercare and begged me not to drop him off.The straw that broke the camels back and lead to me pulling them out immediately was when I picked up one of my kids early to find out a floater threatened she was GOING TO CALL THE POLICE TO TAKE HIM TO JAIL if he didnt fall in line. My kid JUST turned 5 years old. They need to clean house and start from scratch with properly trained staff. If negative stars were an option theyd rock it.EDIT I would be remiss if I didnt mention that I feel for the assistant directoracting director Ms. Amy. She seems to be the only one there who genuinely cares about the children at the center and is trying to keep things afloat despite having incompetent stuff.
Definitely do NOT recommend this daycare. We have been here two years and this has drastically gone downhill. Sounds like we have experienced some of the problems a previous poster mentioned unfortunately. High turnover rates no consistency in teachers little to no communication or updates on your child teachers that are not properly trained to work with certain age groups and do not understand childrens behavioral development teachers that have no problem bullying and antagonizing toddlers the list goes on. They have absolutely no problem lying to parents faces on multiple occasions multiple staff members in our experience. Always an excuse or empty apologies from upper management but never a solution or resolution to any problem. All about the profit and not about the children as they claim. Honestly I hate that a place like this is in business in our Oakleaf community. Not safe for our kids at all. Do yourself a favor and look up their dcf violations. They do not consistently run background checks on staff. Enough said.
Horrible center with noooo proper means of supervision. While my niece was in attendance i had driven by the center and notice that her class had been on the playground for over an hour. If i could give -500 stars i would. This center has really gone down in the past three months. Do yourself a favor and find another center that actually cares about the childern and not the profit.
we love this center Miss Terri is amazing My son is thriving and learns so much everyday. He also does soccer once a week and is so happy. Thank you so much
We have been at this KinderCare for 6 months in the infant room and it has been awesome getting sincere interactive and loving care for our 1-year-old. The current directors Terri and Joceline are so involved in knowing the kids and bringing social and educational enrichment to center. I was very impressed that during staffing changes these ladies kept us updated and listened to any concerns we had. Within the infant room Trish has been a consistent source of comfort love and learning working on walking speech and social interaction with our baby. Isabell is always cuddling the little ones or offering toys and activities that improve coordination skills. Meagan is the perfect blend of patience and encouragement as she is getting our little one ready to transition in the toddler room. These teachers spend time getting to know our child encouraging his development and suggesting changes to prepare him for the next classroom. The administrators and teachers at OakLeaf KinderCare have huge hearts show true interest in the children and feel like family You know you are at a good facility when even Marilyn who prepares the meals sees your child and immediately greets them by name with a huge smile I recommend Terri and her team 100 to provide outstanding childcare.
Id give 0 stars if possible. My child got dismissed after 2 half days stating he needed more 11 care when he was just distressed over having not had anything to eat nor drink that he could tolerate. I was transparent from the start and let them know he wasnt just a picky eater but that had many sensory processing issues. His therapists were open to come to he facility to do training. I instead just got brushed off over my concerns despite them knowing Im a medical provider. I was even told theyd work with us. Ha Then they just kicked him out via email the night before he was supposed to start his third half-day He never had a chance. Both days that my mom picked him up his shirt was soiled from all the crying. You couldnt even change his shirt All admin needs to be replaced.
The director goes into the woods to smoke cigarettes throughout the day. The turn over is horrendous. My child has had 5 different sets of teachers in his...
This place has gone down hill so much in a year. Weve gone through 3 directors and interim directors all of the teachers are leaving for other daycares because they refuse to pay them adequately. It looks great but when you go inside you can smell the soiled diaper smells and see the disarray. They have had not enough teachers for the amount of toddlers in their class this whole last week. We had to pull our kids early before our two weeks notice because we feel it is unsafe.
My 2 kids have been going to this location and we love it Paula the director is very hands on. She knows the kids names because she doesnt hide in her office. She greets us at the door many days. She is in and out of all the rooms and does a lot to keep the place running smoothly. It is the same three people taking the childrens temps every morning and walking them to their classes. We have been to many places as a military family and this one by far has the best care we have ever been to. I have never been to one that had a director so hands on in the day to day care of her kids. I cannot recommend this place enough or give enough stars. The cleanliness is above standards every day I come in. I have come in on many odd times so I know it isnt just for the morning drop offs or the after work pick ups. Paula truly sets the standards high here. There is an app that you can download to see what your child is up to and is updated multiple times a day. The kids grandmother from out of state we gave access too and she can watch them too.
If you want an overpaid babysitter KinderCare is the place. My kids went to KinderCare for a year they were one of the first kids to attend when they opened. In the beginning Paula the director and her staff was amazing We had nothing but great thing to say about the facility. They were welcoming and the quality of their care was superb So we thought. This great hospitality was pre-covid once covid hit and the doors closed the quality of their care went down the drain. There isnt any consistency organization or professionalism with her staff the director hasnt hired any good qualified teachers nor can she keep them longer then 3 months before they quit. They even have the lunch lady sitting in helping because they are short staffed. The turn over rate is very alarming. My child regressed due to inconsistency and inexperienced staffing and when we would confront the director with our concerns she would lie and pretend she cared and say she was going to fix things just to continue to keep our business. We gave her multiple chances to fix things but dont see any results.Because of covid you cant pop up and check up on your kids and see how things are going and there isnt cameras throughout the facility so the director is using that to her advantage and she is running a circus not a top tier daycare that KinderCare is suppose to be.We trusted Paula and her staff and its really disheartening that we were lied to and our child was mistreated and sat up for failure. The director only seems to care about is bringing in more kids money and not hiring enough qualified teachers. They are short handed and they are a sinking ship its only a matter of time before someones child is hurt before things blows up in flames. That is why I withdrew my children from their care. I wouldnt recommend this daycare. If you are considering the daycare be sure to ask about the staffing qualifications because only a few are certified and have CPR certifications. Please think twice before spending an arm and a leg for mediocre childcare.
If you are looking for a daycare for your little one look no further this is the place Switching my son to this center has seriously been life changing and one of the best things I could have done for him. Miss Paula is absolutely amazing in the way she handles every little detail and very attentive and overall incredible the whole entire staff is super amazing. I am absolutely at my peace when I drop him off to school and he gets so excited to go there everyday. This is our second experience at a new school and the difference is night and day these days he is more outgoing excited and really confident which are key components in his developmental milestones. They are very attentive kind and loving at this Kindercare and I couldnt be more grateful or think of a better staff to trust my sunshine with. The app is so important to me I get to see what they have planned for the day adorable pictures and updates on what he is doing which is genius and much appreciated. Seriously I can write a book about how great this place is I recommend this daycare to any and everyone who would listen.
I cant say enough about this KinderCare. I was really skeptical coming in because our 1 year old had just endured a huge transition after our move from San Diego but after visiting the facility several times and speaking with Paula the director Laurie Terri and several of the teachers we were sold. When our baby 1 years old walked in the first day he was at home. I also had a 2 month old at the time as well. Now my big boy is 2 years old and my little guy is 10 months old and I couldnt be happier. This place is truly home to our family. The teachers are amazing even through these crazy times. The app is updated in real time and I can see the different activities my children are doing throughout the day. My 2 year old wasnt talking much at all when he started and we were a little worried but we noticed a difference within a couple of weeks. My boys are learning an abundance of material and having fun while doing it. In just a few short months my 2 year old can count past 20 knows his colors his ABCs shapes animal sounds and so much more. This is the best place for my children. I wouldnt have it any other way.The facility is beautiful its clean and the classroom sizes are perfect. The staff is very pleasant and forthcoming. We are always kept in the loop if there is any sort of change. Im so grateful that we found his KinderCare when we did. Im especially thankful to Paula Terri Laurie Ashley Sara Moana Angie Geri and the rest of the staff for all you do for my boys. Thank you for giving me the peace of mind knowing my children are in the best hands while I work.

Frequently Asked Questions
Speech therapy is almost always recommended for autistic children since many people with autism have difficulty with social communication. Even if a child is very verbal and says a lot of words, they might need to work on communication skills like:
- responding to questions
- starting or ending conversation
- changing conversation topics
- using gestures like pointing
- understanding other people's body language
Speech therapy is a big focus in early intervention for autistic children and is usually the starting place for recently diagnosed kids. There is a critical period in the brain for language development and so, it's really important to teach language and communication skills as early as possible, especially if there are any delays in that area. Your child will learn effective ways to communicate which will help them grow into more independent and confident individuals.
It might be obvious when a child struggles with speaking —they are very quiet, say only a few words, or don't speak at all.
Spot speech and language delays like a doctor here.
The goal of speech therapy is to help your child communicate effectively with other people across all environments. This may take the form of using gestures, simple signs, verbal speech, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
Some other common things speech therapists can help with:
- Nonverbal skills, such as signs or gestures
- Forming speech in a clearer way
- Communicating thoughts and feelings clearly
- Understanding and responding to questions
- Discerning facial expressions and their corresponding emotions
- Noticing and understanding body language
- Feeding and swallowing
- Stuttering
“Early Intervention” might be the provider’s way of describing services that they provide to babies or young children. However, it might also indicate that the provider is a vendor for your state’s publicly funded program. This means the services with this provider might be covered by your state!
The first step in accessing these free services from your state is to get an evaluation. The evaluation will help the state determine what services your child qualifies for, if any. You can find your state’s local EI program by clicking here.
When you contact your local center, say “I have concerns about my child’s development and I would like to have my child evaluated to find out if they are eligible for early intervention services.” They will ask screening questions and arrange for an evaluation, which is provided for free.
If your child does not qualify, you can ask your school to evaluate your child for a 504 plan. This article provides more information about the differences between IEPs and 504s.
This happens. The results of the school’s evaluation may be different than your child’s medical diagnosis. It’s also important to remember that school is NOT the final say on your child’s potential. They may offer very little support to your child, underestimate their abilities, or disagree with you on what support your child needs. You will probably need to advocate for the services and support you believe your child needs.
Most children go to daycare before they enter preschool at age 3 or 4. Most children stop daycare at the age of 6 when they go to school. Children who are homeschooled might continue daycare programs. Kids diagnosed with autism or other developmental disabilities might be in both daycare and therapy programs longer. Special needs programs and centers help children up to 26 years old.
One of the best things you can do is to have a conversation with the daycare staff. Share details about your child’s autism diagnosis, strengths, and challenges. Building open lines of communication will help you work together to support your child’s needs. Prepare the daycare provider to work with your child with a physical guidebook. This guidebook can include all of your child’s favorite things and how to calm them down. You might already have one ready from your experience with babysitters or teachers!
