Introduction
Hi! I’m Karin "Careen" Hartunian Koukeyan, a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist with training and experience across the lifespan. Over the years, I’ve worked in clinical settings, schools, telepractice, private practice helping clients overcome their communication challenges. I have practiced via telehealth for over 15 years.
I believe therapy should be patient-centered, practical, and culturally responsive. Every family brings unique strengths, and I work to honor those while tailoring strategies to meet each client’s needs. My background as a bilingual speech language pathologist working with multiple languages and cultures helps me connect with diverse communities and provide therapy that feels relevant and meaningful. I’m passionate about bridging gaps in communication access, empowering clients to use their voices in school, work, and social settings, and guiding families through every step of the therapy process. Families often tell me they appreciate my ability to make therapy fun while keeping clients focused on their goals. I strive to make every session not only effective, but also motivating and enjoyable.
When I’m not working, you can usually find me cooking new ethnic dishes for my family or creating short stories to share with my writing group. Fun fact: I once climbed Mt. Whitney.
What words would you use to describe yourself?
Compassionate
Experienced
Empowering
I describe myself as compassionate, experienced, and empowering because these qualities guide how I approach therapy. I bring compassion by creating a supportive, encouraging environment where children feel safe to grow and learn. With over 25 years of experience across a variety of settings, I draw on proven strategies tailored to each child’s unique needs. Above all, I aim to empower children and their families, helping them build confidence, develop practical skills, and carry success beyond the therapy room into everyday life.
Who are you best positioned to serve?
I work with little ones as young as 18 months through 6 years old who are just starting to develop their speech and language skills, helping them build a strong foundation for communication. I also support children of all ages with speech sound difficulties, making sure they can be understood and feel confident when speaking. For older kids and teens, I focus on building social and communication skills that carry them through school and into young adulthood. I also coach college students and adults who want to improve public speaking, presentation skills, and executive presence.
