About Karen Lam Kishiyama, DDS
Dr. Lam comes from a Chinese-Vietnamese family, but was born and grew up in France until the end of high school. She moved to the United States, where she pursued her undergraduate studies and obtained a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering and a Master of Science in materials science from the California Institute of Technology. After working as a research and development battery engineer for several years, she decided to change careers to become a dentist and has not looked back since.
Dr. Lam obtained her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the UCSF School of Dentistry, where she graduated at the top of her class and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society. She then completed her residency in pediatric dentistry at UCSF where she served as chief resident and received her specialty certificate. She is now a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a part-time teaching faculty member at the University of the Pacific, Dugoni School of Dentistry.
Dr. Lam enjoys spending time with her husband, two children, and their friends. She loves to travel and looks forward to discovering many new places, cultural events and culinary adventures, both near and far. She can also speak French, Spanish and Vietnamese.
As a pediatric dentist, her goal is to help guide children in achieving optimal oral health. Whether it means providing parents with the knowledge and advice needed to care for the early stages of teething, reassuring a child as they transition to their permanent teeth, or even motivating teenagers to become independent in their self-care
