James Chow, M.A., CCC-SLP
Introduction
Hello, my name is James, a speech-language pathologist serving individuals ages 5 to 90+ years of age in Redding and Shasta Lake. I take a holistic, individualized approach to therapy, combining evidence-based strategies with each person’s unique strengths, interests, and goals. My areas of focus include language, social communication, motor speech, stuttering, AAC, Parkinson’s voice, and cognitive communication. I’m passionate about providing neuroaffirming services that support meaningful participation in everyday life. My goal is to create a supportive, collaborative environment where individuals feel understood, empowered, and equipped to communicate in ways that work for them.
What words would you use to describe yourself?
I would describe myself as patient, empathetic, and holistic. Patience helps me meet each individual where they are, allowing space for growth at their own pace and in their own way. Empathy guides me to listen, understand different perspectives, and build trusting relationships with the people I serve and their families. Taking a holistic approach means looking beyond communication challenges to understand the whole person, including their strengths, interests, environment, and everyday needs. I strive to make therapy collaborative, meaningful, and connected to what matters most in each person’s life.
Who are you best positioned to serve?
I’m best positioned to serve children ages 5-17 and adults ages 18-90+ who want support with language, social communication, motor speech, stuttering, AAC, Parkinson’s voice, or cognitive communication. I’m especially passionate about providing neuroaffirming, holistic services that focus on each person’s strengths and support participation in everyday life. I value working collaboratively with individuals and families to develop goals that are meaningful to them. While I strive to provide individualized care.
I’m not as well-positioned to address swallowing difficulties or serve children younger than 5. In those situations, I would encourage connecting with a provider whose expertise better matches those needs.
