Although practicing law in real life is not always as dramatic as it appears on TV, it often has a dramatic impact on clients’ lives. My first job after graduating law school was as an Attorney at the Children’s Law Center of Massachusetts. The Law Center promotes and secures equal justice and opportunity for low-income children in a variety of situations, including their educational needs. I represented children in special education and school discipline proceedings and in court-appointed care and protection cases. I learned how to address children’s family and educational struggles and needs from some of the most dedicated, hard-working, and empathetic lawyers I know. I regularly worked with parents and guardians, medical and mental health professionals, school personnel, and state social welfare agencies to effectively advocate for and achieve the best outcomes for my clients to successfully move forward in life.
