Founding Story
I started Heyday Speech and Language Therapy in May 2022, and honestly, I never saw it coming. I used to joke that starting a business was for go-getters and doers — not a late-in-life career starter with ADHD and a boatload of student debt. And then I went and did it anyway.
It started simply enough: parents were asking if I offered speech therapy services over the summer, between school years. That question planted a seed. I took a deep dive into everything I'd need to get started (hello, ADHD hyperfocus) and within just a few weeks, I had seen my first client. I was hooked immediately.
Before Heyday, I was working in a school district with a caseload of over 70 students, squeezing in 15-20 minute group sessions each week. I loved those kids, but the system made it really hard to do the kind of work I knew was possible. Private practice changed everything. I got to slow down, actually connect with families, and provide the kind of thoughtful, individualized care that kids deserve — without the red tape.
What surprised me most was how much I loved running a practice. I got to build something that reflects exactly what I believe: that every child communicates in their own way, that neurodivergent kids have real strengths worth celebrating, and that families deserve a partner in this process, not just a provider.
I'm so glad those parents asked that question!
