Founding Story

Karen received her bachelor's degree from the University of New York at Buffalo. Karen had a long career as a sales and marketing executive for several different media outlets until one of her family members was diagnosed with a disability. It was then that Karen decided to make a career change. Karen is a member of the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates (COPAA) where she received her special education advocacy training and an advanced advocacy certificate. In addition to her training from COPAA, Karen received a special education advocacy certificate from William and Mary Law Institute of Special Education Advocacy, which provides special education training to experienced advocates and attorneys. As part of her continuing education, Karen attends COPPA's annual conferences, as well as conferences from other organizations. Governor Gavin Newsom has appointed Karen to serve as a councilperson for the State Council on Developmental Disabilities, Orange County region. Karen has also been appointed to serve on the Self-Determination Advisory Committee for the Regional Center of Orange County. When Karen has free time, she and her son love taking their Labradoodle to the park.
