About GallopNYC

GallopNYC offers both horseback riding and therapeutic horsemanship programs to New Yorkers, particularly riders with disabilities, veterans, seniors, and at-risk youth. We also offer recreational riding programs to the general public. Both recreational and therapeutic schedules at each location vary seasonally. Therapeutic horsemanship uses the pleasures and skills of horseback riding and horse knowledge to build developmental, emotional, social, and physical skills for each of our riders. Additionally, we offer hippotherapy services.

The waitlist for recreational lessons is extremely worth it. Ive been learning SO much with Lynne. She is an incredible instructor and I have been learning foundational skills that have truly strengthened my riding. I look forward to every lesson. The horses here are big puppy dogs and the staffvolunteers are so kind Im so grateful to ride here.

Gallop NYC is an amazing stable and the programs there for children are incredible. The team there is friendly and extremely welcoming to all. Note that if you would like to ride there you likely have to sign up for a repeating slot.

Solid riding stables. Very different since the changeover from Lynnes riding stables. Gallop nyc is a chain organization that does primarily therapeutic riding for children with disabilities. You used to be able to pay to ride a couple circles in the indoor arena which was tiny but decent. Its nice to volunteer also to help the kids. They ride trails in nearby forest park. I dont think they offer boarding anymore.

I have been a volunteer with GallopNYC for the past 2 years and have experienced truly a place of joy The horse riding instructors therapists and staff are incredibly diligent and capable and meet the challenge of their role managing rider horses and volunteers with confidence and enthusiasm I highly recommend learning more about the mission and becoming involved in this organization that Believes in Ability and makes smiles happen everyday

I feel bad about writing this review because I love horses but Im giving 3 stars for their business. I used go there quite often and spent a good amount of money. From the beginning I told them what I wanted to learn. Apparently this place is not equipped for professional lessons but they kept telling I wasnt ready for the next step. I enjoyed riding but I would have learned much more in a different place if they simply told me they dont teach anything more than trot. There was another problem and it put an end to my business with them. I used to volunteer there and I liked it a lot. Until one 300 was stolen from my purse. I was told to leave my bag on a bench while lead walking. I thought it was safe because there were cameras everywhere. When I called them later and explained my situation the woman she was temporarily replacing a manager didnt seem interested to trying to help me. When I mentioned cameras she mumbled something unclear. I was hurt to be honest because its the last thing you expect helping for free. I was surprised that they didnt even care because obviously a person who stole my money would steal again.Whoever its great place for kids and people with disabilities probably the only place because they have a special equipment for that. Staff is mostly nice and friendly. Pretty convenient to get there.

I had a recreational lesson at GallopNYC today. 60 minutes of working one on one with an experienced and patient teacher. Their hours are office job-friendly too so I can have lessons after I finish at my job. The horse I was paired with was sweet and patient. I highly recommend this school

Not really a good place for recreational lessons. I am a female body builder a teacher with a masters degree home contractor and I know my way around the auto shop pretty well. Although riding a horse was totally new to me I seem to learn skills rather quickly and become quite efficient in them. I think the instructors are very well trained for therapeutic riding that they cant seem to transition to training a non-disabled rider. The instructor was very hesitant about taking the horse off lead and allowed a slow trot for only a few small intervals of a half a lap at a time. The horse also appeared to have gotten a new saddle as did another horse. The staff seemed more preoccupied with the saddling of the horses rather than the lesson. I could see why this is therapeutic but it just may not be suited for someone fully functional.
