FUNctionabilities has been an incredible experience for me my son and my daughter. My son had just turned 3 when we started receiving OT and ST therapy with FUNctionabilities. I was told by his previous therapist he would never speak play with others or show emotion. I was devastated and was trying to find someone who would not write him off so quickly. We have been with FUNctionabilities for less than a year and my son has so many words and is playing and interacting with others. It is so wonderful to find an atmosphere my son is thriving in.The staff has been so wonderful and so patient with my son. I was so thrilled with all his progress I started my daughter in OT as well and have seen wonderful things for her.I would recommend this place over and over again

We just started bringing our 2 year old here for speech therapy a few months ago. We actually started speech therapy at another facility closer to our house but we were not satisfied with the lack of progress because they only wanted to treat her once a week. From the start I could tell Functionabilities was different. They were very thorough from the emails they sent before the evaluation to current. The therapists have been amazing and super helpful. Were able to come 3 times a week which has been fantastic and were already seeing so much improvement. To see my child being able to communicate more effectively is amazing and makes every minute were here worth it.

They may be good at certain things here but not for what my child needed. I wish they would have said maybe a different place would be better for you. Instead we went to therapy 2-3 times a week for over a year to work on food therapy for my child who has anxiety about food and is very picky. They claimed to be working with our insurance. So every visit we paid a copay. Our insurance apparently denied claims and they appealed all they could. They made it seem like they would be able to get them to cover it and everything was fine. Then after a year they told us our insurance denied all the claims as not medically necessary and there was nothing we could do. So now we were stuck with tens of thousands of dollars to pay. And after a year had my child changed eating habits No really not much change at all. Disappointing to say the least.

I started attending function abilities with my little sister. I started to notice how much the employees their truly cared not just about me and my sister but about every child that walked through the doors. Everyone there was always trying to help us reach our highest potential and help us understand that there are things that we can do even if other people told us we couldnt. Through out the years that I attended function abilities I was able to create bonds with the people that were helping me FUNctionabilities helped me with so many things they helped me with my balance attention and social skills just to name a few they cared about my future and success much that they were even able to help me with my math homework The bottom line is that despite what other people say they do not think about anyone as a number ever and they truly care about each child they work with. FUNctionabilities is what will help and I know from experience that they are willing to help Thank you FUNctionabilities for helping me even now that Im no longer a patient

Let me preface by saying that some of the therapists here are great. My sons speech pathologist has been great and we really like her and some of the OT therapists that both of my kids have worked with have been really great. BUT my barely 6 year old son who is on the spectrum was forced to clean toilets and do planks and write lines as punishment. The therapist he was with would not elaborate on what he did. Just that he didnt listen. He had tear stained cheeks and was visibly distraught. I did not approve of this kind of discipline nor would I ever have And because you have to sit in a waiting room while they take your child to the back I had no idea this was going on. I was absolutely shocked and super upset and angry. If abuse is the way they seem fit to discipline children then this place needs to be shut down.

We came to Functionabilities and after 2 months we saw such progress in our daughter it was amazing An OT works one-on-one with our daughter and we as parents are given tools to continue the progress and leaning at home which is where we want to see lasting change the most. It has opened our daughters eyes as well as our eyes on what she struggles with and how we can help support her growth. The staff is personal knowing her name and remembering individual things about her likes needs and home life. They are able to redirect guide introspection for actions and help her see her positive growth. It feels so good to have trained professionas on our team as we work together towards my daughters progress

I had paid upfront for the most description no evaluation for my child that went through extreme trauma. The day of his evaluation the woman that did it brought him out extremely unconfident about the work she performed with my child saying he didnt really seem that interested in what I was trying to work with him with Isnt that their job to work with children with behavioral issues I was planning on sending another child there and again going to pay upfront for that evaluation. They called me to remind me of the appointment. I was not able to make due to my sons severe trauma injury. He had another doctors appointment. I asked to move it to the following day or whenever was convenient for them and they wanted to charge me an 80 cancellation fee because I was too hours shy of the 48 hour cancellation time. When youre spending this much money with a program and a facility you would think they would be more considerate especially them knowing my family situation. They did not care after both bad vibes I got I decided to pull my kids and asked for my money back. They told me no. They didnt even want to give me half of the evaluation. They said they started Please do not go here if you dont wanna be looked at like a number. This facility is not heartwarming and they do not care about you

Brought my son in for an evaluation Feb 2023. The team at FUNctionabilities is exceptional because they listen to the concerns I bought up as a parent and help puzzle out the root factors and identify solutions we could try at home and at school to help my child be successful not just at the evaluation but throughout his occupational therapy sessions when I brought up concerns or they noticed something unexpected. The positive changes I and my husband and my sons teacher noticed after three months of attending were impressive enough for me to bring my oldest in for an evaluation this past week. I feel like they are truly interested in helping each child as an individual providing the highest quality care without price gorging parents by making us cover non needed extras like the licencing rights to play Disney movies in the waiting room or recommending unnecessary testingThey have been willing to work with me with and my insurance company for getting visits covered. Occupational Therapy requires trained professionals and it makes sense that they be compensated accordingly.I trust the team because Im seeing the results in my childs life. As a parent Im gaining tools for helping him and hes gaining the tools to advocate for himself as well as physical skills to function happier at home and school. Its been worth it to me. I wish I would have started taking him two years ago when my mom gut feeling was first concerned. Also worth noting my kid enjoys coming to fun school which is what we call it.Definitely recommend.

It is so nice to find a therapy clinic where they are so straight forward. Information is emailed before the first visit where trained professional assess the child and not just by what they see but using gold standard assessments. They call the insurance company with you so you can understand at the beginning what the insurance company says they are going to cover. From day one you are told that you parents dont go into the gym their policies including a cheaper cancelation policy than where other days charge me the full amount of the visit and what to expect during the initial evaluation. You can pick how many of the recommended assessments your child will do instead of a one-size-fit all assessment. After providing your own copy of the assessment they explain it and tell you how they can address your top concerns. I wish I got this type of care from my dentist or doctors office

Frequently Asked Questions
Speech therapy is almost always recommended for autistic children since many people with autism have difficulty with social communication. Even if a child is very verbal and says a lot of words, they might need to work on communication skills like:
responding to questions
starting or ending conversation
changing conversation topics
using gestures like pointing
understanding other people's body language
Speech therapy is a big focus in early intervention for autistic children and is usually the starting place for recently diagnosed kids. There is a critical period in the brain for language development and so, it's really important to teach language and communication skills as early as possible, especially if there are any delays in that area. Your child will learn effective ways to communicate which will help them grow into more independent and confident individuals.
It might be obvious when a child struggles with speaking —they are very quiet, say only a few words, or don't speak at all.
Spot speech and language delays like a doctor here.
The goal of speech therapy is to help your child communicate effectively with other people across all environments. This may take the form of using gestures, simple signs, verbal speech, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
Some other common things speech therapists can help with:
Nonverbal skills, such as signs or gestures
Forming speech in a clearer way
Communicating thoughts and feelings clearly
Understanding and responding to questions
Discerning facial expressions and their corresponding emotions
Noticing and understanding body language
Feeding and swallowing
Stuttering
The occupational therapy process includes an OT evaluation before care starts. Here are the four steps your family can expect when starting occupational therapy:
Complete OT evaluation. An occupational therapist first identifies your child’s strengths and needs through a thorough OT evaluation, also known as an OT assessment or screening. You’ll answer questions about your child’s skills, and your child will most likely demonstrate their skills via hands-on activities with the therapist. Evaluations can last 30 minutes to a few hours.
Approve OT plan. The therapist develops a care plan with individualized goals and customized interventions based on your child’s needs. You can also share any specific goals or concerns before approving the OT plan.
Start therapy sessions. The therapist works directly with your child and your family, using various strategies and exercises to systematically improve areas of limitations and to build upon a child’s strengths. Some exercises your child might participate in are animal walks, obstacle courses, and therapy swing activities. Your family may learn strategies for supporting your child’s individualized needs at home, such as ways of supporting emotional regulation and sensory processing. The therapist may also recommend tools and techniques to use at home, in the community, or in the classroom to help your child succeed.
Monitor your child’s progress. Parents and caregivers can expect ongoing progress monitoring and communication to ensure the child is achieving their short and long-term goals.
Occupational therapy can also be provided virtually via telemedicine. Virtual therapy is a great option for families in rural areas who may not have access to in-person services, or for families who prefer to have therapy in their child’s home.
Virtual OT allows the opportunity for increased caregiver participation and understanding of a child’s strengths, areas of improvement, and generalization of skills in the child’s home environment. Virtual therapy also provides increased opportunities for caregiver and family education to support the child and the family based on each family’s needs.
