Introduction
Hi! My name is Emily Bromer, and I’m a pediatric speech-language pathologist based in Lynchburg, Virginia. I work with children ages 15 months through 21 years old and support a wide range of communication needs. My therapy style is play-based and child-led, which helps children feel comfortable, motivated, and excited to communicate. Through my experience as a school-based SLP, I’ve developed strong expertise in speech sound and expressive and receptive language disorders, and I especially enjoy incorporating AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) to support communication in many forms. I’m passionate about helping children find their voice—whether that’s first words, clearer speech, or new ways to communicate.
What words would you use to describe yourself?
Collaborative
Encouraging
Intentional
Three words I would use to describe myself are collaborative, encouraging, and intentional. Collaboration is central to my work because meaningful progress happens when therapists, families, and children work together toward shared goals. I strive to create an encouraging environment where children feel confident taking risks and celebrating their communication successes. I’m also very intentional in my approach to therapy. Every activity, strategy, and support I use, whether targeting speech sounds, language development, or incorporating AAC, is thoughtfully chosen to match each child’s strengths and needs while making therapy fun, engaging, and meaningful.
Who are you best positioned to serve?
I’m best positioned to serve children ages 15 months through 21 years old who are experiencing challenges with speech sound development, expressive language, or receptive language. I especially enjoy helping toddlers build their first words, supporting school-aged children as they strengthen communication for academic and social success, and incorporating AAC to provide additional ways for children to communicate. My play-based, child-led approach works best for families who value collaboration and enjoy being actively involved in their child’s progress. Children who require highly specialized services outside my areas of experience may benefit from clinicians who focus specifically in those specialties.
