About Elizabeth W. Goodell, Ph.D.
Elizabeth W. Goodell, Ph.D. conducts cognitive assessments of children and adults who have difficulties learning and who may struggle with aspects of everyday functioning. Parents are often the first to notice learning differences in a child. "Red flags" during the school years may include: Significant variability in performance across subjects Failure to learn basic skills Difficulty retaining information or skills Problems with reading despite average intelligence Inability to initiate independent tasks such as homework Difficulties focusing and paying attention Awkward pencil grasp and poor handwriting Lack of self confidence A person's learning profile is unique. No single symptom is common to all indviduals with learning difficulties. While one person may have problems with language-based tasks such as reading and writing, another may have problems with processing speed and visual-spatial skills. A cognitive evaluation can provide important information regarding a person's strengths and areas of need. With this additional information, families and school systems are better equipped to help a person reach their full potential.
