Dream Rider Equestrian Therapy

Dream Rider Equestrian Therapy provides physical and emotional support with the assistance of our therapy ponies and community volunteers. We serve children with autism and we ride to music. We promote communication both verbal and non verbal with others and with the horses who speak body language. There is a sympathy between the mind of the nonverbal autistic child and the horse. They think alike...in pictures. Controlling and communicating with the horse as a go between tends to relax and open up the child to communication with people as well. School performance has been shown to improve dramatically after experiencing equine assisted learning. Riding to music provides a focus of rhythm shared by all together including the horse, the rider and the teachers.Horses love music and respond to it if given a chance to move with a rhythmic beat. This organizes the brain of the child as well and moving with another body is empowering.
