Introduction

Hi! My name is Denise Smith. I have been a licensed speech-language pathologist for over 20 years and have a wide depth of knowledge and experience in the field.

I speak four languages: English, Arabic, Spanish, and French. I am ASHA (American Speech and Hearing Association) certified, and I am licensed in California.

I have extensive experience and training in the following areas: Articulation delays and disorders (I use the complexity approach that gets the children results), Language delays and disorders, Social Groups, Autism Spectrum Disorders and social/pragmatic language disorders, Ethical Multicultural Speech and Language Assessments, Alternative Augmentative Communication (AAC) including eye gaze devices and low tech devices training and education, and working with Individualized Education Programs (IEP).
My sessions will always be catered to your child’s individual needs. I believe that parents are their children's biggest advocates. Therefore, educating the parents/caregivers and involving them in the therapy plan is a major priority.

What words would you use to describe yourself?

Grounded
devoted
visionary
I chose grounded, visionary, and devoted because they reflect who I’ve become in this season of my life. I am grounded in how I respond instead of react, anchoring myself and my children with steadiness. I am visionary because I see beyond where I am, building my business, expanding my impact, and creating long-term stability and freedom. And I am devoted to growth, integrity, my family, and doing things the right way. These words represent my evolution from survival mode into intentional, secure, and purpose-driven living.

Who are you best positioned to serve?

I am best positioned to serve upper elementary, middle, and high school students who are ready to build confidence, communication skills, and real-world social understanding. I especially love supporting adolescents as they grow in self-advocacy, perspective-taking, and conversational skills. I also deeply enjoy working in early intervention, partnering with families to build strong foundational communication skills from the start. I absolutely adore working with children on the autism spectrum and supporting students who use AAC, helping them find their voice and communicate in ways that feel empowering, functional, and authentic to who they are.

Denise is a very caring and patient speech therapist. She establishes rapport really quickly with the children she works with and their families. Denise is really knowledgeable about all areas of speech pathology, but is always researching to learn more!
