About Daniel Sterdt
Daniel received his undergraduate degree from Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland and holds a Masters in Gerontological Counseling. With a strong background in Adlerian and Humanistic psychology, Dan enjoys working with individuals of diverse age groups, cultures, and life experiences. He believes in the therapeutic nature of a warm, trusting, and non-judgmental relationship, as well as in the inherent abilities and values within each client.
Dan has four years experience as a bereavement counselor with a local Hospice, helping individuals, couples, families, and groups cope with the death of a loved one. Dan also ran a yearly summer camp for children ages 6-13, as well as an ongoing support group for school-aged kids from Kindergarten through 12th grade. He also facilitated groups for bereaved spouses and adult children, as well as a gathering of parents who lost a son or daughter.
Dan also has extensive work with older adults in nursing home and rehabilitational settings throughout the Chicagoland area. He conducted research on the effects of a positive environment on mood and self-esteem and has presented at numerous conferences on self-care, on coping with Alzheimer's and dementia, and on positive psychology.
