Highly Responsive
Without Cortica, our child would not have the progress in her capabilities that we all enjoy today. Consistent and frequent visits with the team at Cortica has allowed our child to matriculate into General Ed, independently communicate and engage with her peers appropriately, and independently problem solve and self soothe.

Beaming Review

For years, in front of my nonverbal child, a Cortica SLP said he would never speak. His time was better spent becoming more proficient on his AAC device. I asked about Childhood Apraxia of Speech and was told no. In 02/23 we went to Speech Point & my child WAS diagnosed with CAS. 35 mins. into his 1st (yes, 1st) session, with proper support, he said his 1st word, "mom". That was 3 wks. before his 9th bd. Now it’s 08/24 & with intensive speech, 60 min sessions 4 - 5/week, he is fully verbal. I wish those of you who are reading this and questioning if I am telling the truth could see people’s reactions who knew my child prior to him speaking. To hear him speak for the first time, many of these people were so emotional they themselves could hardly speak. DON’T ever listen to someone who says your child won't do something. You MUST advocate for your child. After his 1st speech session @ Speech Point, he came home & typed “all I have ever wanted to do was use my mouth to talk”.

Frequently Asked Questions

We specialize in autism care, but we also serve a broader range of neurodiverse patients, including those with developmental delay, ADHD, epilepsy, genetic syndromes, sensory processing disorder, learning disabilities and more. Our team has expertise in diagnosing and treating a wide spectrum of developmental challenges.

Depending on your child’s clinical needs and their school, we may be able to provide in-school ABA in certain districts. We are NPA certified in California.

No. Our medical team, led by pediatricians and neurologists, can perform a thorough evaluation of your child, including autism testing, and provide you with an accurate diagnosis.

“Early Intervention” might be the provider’s way of describing services that they provide to babies or young children. However, it might also indicate that the provider is a vendor for your state’s publicly funded program. This means the services with this provider might be covered by your state!

The first step in accessing these free services from your state is to get an evaluation. The evaluation will help the state determine what services your child qualifies for, if any. You can find your state’s local EI program by clicking here.

When you contact your local center, say “I have concerns about my child’s development and I would like to have my child evaluated to find out if they are eligible for early intervention services.” They will ask screening questions and arrange for an evaluation, which is provided for free.

Your doctor may recommend feeding therapy to help your child with their negative feelings and behaviors towards food. Feeding therapy can be a part of your existing speech and language, behavior, or occupational therapy. For example, a speech and language pathologist (SLPs) can help with chewing and swallowing related issues and an occupational therapist (OT) can help with fine motor skills related to eating. Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is a type of behavior therapy that will aim to improve behaviors with mealtimes and increase dietary variety and decrease unwanted behaviors such as food refusal.

A formal ASD diagnosis, or a medical diagnosis, helps you get the support your family needs, especially within the context of accessing medically necessary therapies and services.

  • Insurance Coverage for Therapies: Medically necessary therapies for ASD are often covered by insurance including, but not limited to, speech therapy, ABA therapy, and occupational therapy.
  • Financial Support: A diagnosis is required when applying for social security or disability benefits.
  • Plan for Care: A diagnosis helps identify your child’s support needs. For example, your child might need to develop social communication and self-regulation skills.
  • Future Research: The more data we gather through evaluations, the more we can improve services for autistic children and adults.

1 in 36 children is diagnosed with autism according to the latest reports.

Here are some reasons why:

  • Medical professionals understand autism better. More doctors are trained to test for autism and other developmental and language delays.
  • The definition of autism has evolved in recent years which means that an autism diagnosis covers more conditions to help more people get the services they need.
