About Capital Area Intermediate

The Capital Area Intermediate Unit (CAIU) is one of 29 educational services agencies located throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Created in 1971 by an Act of PA legislature, IUs are intended to support and provide services to the schools and districts in the IU’s territory or “footprint.” The CAIU serves Cumberland, Dauphin, Perry, and northern York counties, which includes Harrisburg; hence the name “Capital Area."
