My daughter had 2 great years at Camp Capella. She deals with Autism PTSD a panic disorder and is developmentally delayed. She loved to spend a week at camp and really enjoyed art and going out on the boat to look for the Eagle. That all changed shortly after last years session. She has always been very uneasy about trusting people but at camp she felt she could just be myself Mom. She found 2 staff in particular Aly and Hayley that she became close with. This doesnt happen often for my girl. They exchanged facebooks and everything was great. Until they both blocked her on Facebook. This broke the daughters heart. She cried for nights asking why they all of sudden hated her Why they all of the sudden were so close and then BAM..not even telling her or me why. This is the type of thing that stays with you. After having years of trauma especially stays with you. She decided she wanted to go back to camp this year and we even before it was posted began filling out applications for her and her friend Johnny. They had said that due to last years medical incidents..she needed to have a 11. I did not agree with this as having medical emergancy is not a campers fault but never the less found her a 11. We got congratulated on getting one and everything was great. I gave the forms to her physician to fill out and she did them and sent them out. We thought everything was great until earlier this month we were let know that my daughter was felt to be in other words..too much for camp this year. She had a head injury again not her fault earlier this year but has been doing well. Nothing had changed in her except that and now needing a 11. No one reached out to me on the closing date that the medical forms had to be in. I thought they had received them and everything was fine. Staff waited until a week and a half later to tell me she cant come due to the medical a not being in and the nurse Hayley not feeling that she should come. My daughter had her hopes up. It was not very kind and we feel she is being discriminated against. We loved Camp Capella..but for some reason the new owners and administration dont see my daughter the way we her family does. They see the disability NOT the ABILITY.
