Founding Story

My name is Karen Jose, and I am an Occupational Therapist. I graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in Occupational Therapy. I have spent my career at Stanford University and UC Davis Medical Center working with the neurodiverse population for the past 20 years. I am also a mother of a non-speaking autistic child. I have lived through the struggles that arise with receiving an ASD diagnosis. I have been given additional diagnoses along the way. I have felt overwhelmed. I had so many questions. I needed to know what interventions were available to me. How does the school district help me once my child turns three? What are Individualized Education Plans (IEP’s)? Should I be getting speech therapy? Would occupational therapy be beneficial? Where can I get all this info and what will my insurance cover and what can Alta Regional help me with?! Wait, what is Alta Regional? What is IHSS, and can I qualify for it?!
