AMAZING. There isnt another school like this one. Missouri First Steps paid for my son to go here after 10 months of in home speech therapy and no progress. Not only did my son thrive in this school but he was speaking within 6 to 8 weeks of attendance. The ESDM model is very positive and I received so much advice on how to help my son in numerous ways which has continued to be helpful.

These people a rude and do not know how to run a business nor comply with legal requirements. They will readily ignore patient rights parents rights and the code of conduct established by the MO Board of PT.Their practices are contrary to that of ESDM. I would recommend a full review by state regulators into their practices.

I am so thankful for Blue Stars Therapy My son has made phenomenal progress in the 9 months hes been working with them. He went from spending much of his time wandering around in his own little world and not saying a word to looking me in eye smiling and requesting that I play with him. The ESDM program that they utilize feels so natural--its more than behavior modification its developing a foundation in the child that people are fun interesting and worth paying attention to. I loved how so much of my sons therapy time was done in our home with me so that I could be a part of it and the parent training that I received was so empowering These ladies truly have a gift at working with autistic children and have always gone above and beyond my expectations in seeking to help my son.

A little over a year ago our youngest son was diagnosed with autism. A little over a year ago our son would not make eye contact with anyone he had two words in his vocabulary and kept to himself exclusively. A little over a year ago we as parents had no direction no goals no idea what to do. A little over a year ago we were introduced to Blue Stars Therapy and everything changed. The girls from Blue Stars Therapy came into our house not only to coach and steer our son in the right direction but my wife and I as well. We were coached right along side him. The patience passion and energy that these girls bring to every therapy session is unbelievable. They have been extremely flexible from having to change therapy locations last minute to making up sessions missed due to illnesses. They truly take a vested interest in our sons wellbeing and it shows. Our son is now almost age appropriate in every area now and it can only be attributed to the hard work and dedication of our therapist. My family is truly blessed to have had Blue Stars Therapy in our home and we cannot recommend them enough.

I cannot thank Blue Stars Therapy enough for all that they have done for our son Gavin They have worked with our son since he was 18 months and utilizing the Early Start Denver Model they have helped our son transform from a boy who only had 2 words to a boy who now can speak with full sentences without any hesitation in telling us exactly what he needswants. He used to always play by himself without a care for other children and now he is the boy at the playground who wants to invite others to play with him and be his friend. They have helped to develop his socialization communication and behavioral skills in ways that I didnt even know was possible. Our son absolutely adores the staff at Blue Stars and what I love the most is that they also took the time to help my husband and I learn ESDM so that we had the skills to help our son as well. I highly recommend Blue Stars Therapy They are the best

I cant say enough good things about the parent training program we did with Bridget and Amanda. Learning how to relate to and teach our kid has been invaluable and seeing how much happier he is and how he shines now is amazing especially given his diagnosis just 5 months ago. The quality of this program is well beyond other clinics and practices Ive seen.

Blue stars therapy exceeded our expectations. From Day 1 with our son they connected with him and motivated him to learn new skills They really took the time to figure out how he learned best We were amazed at the progress he made in just a few months he went from not talking at all to filling in words in songs in no time and then talking They made therapy fun and were so creative. I learned so much from watching them and through the parent training We loved being able to have the therapy in our home park and other outings It made us feel more involved and apart of it They are truly amazing at what they do and we are so thankful they came into our lives at the perfect time

Frequently Asked Questions
Speech therapy is almost always recommended for autistic children since many people with autism have difficulty with social communication. Even if a child is very verbal and says a lot of words, they might need to work on communication skills like:
responding to questions
starting or ending conversation
changing conversation topics
using gestures like pointing
understanding other people's body language
Speech therapy is a big focus in early intervention for autistic children and is usually the starting place for recently diagnosed kids. There is a critical period in the brain for language development and so, it's really important to teach language and communication skills as early as possible, especially if there are any delays in that area. Your child will learn effective ways to communicate which will help them grow into more independent and confident individuals.
It might be obvious when a child struggles with speaking —they are very quiet, say only a few words, or don't speak at all.
Spot speech and language delays like a doctor here.
The goal of speech therapy is to help your child communicate effectively with other people across all environments. This may take the form of using gestures, simple signs, verbal speech, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
Some other common things speech therapists can help with:
Nonverbal skills, such as signs or gestures
Forming speech in a clearer way
Communicating thoughts and feelings clearly
Understanding and responding to questions
Discerning facial expressions and their corresponding emotions
Noticing and understanding body language
Feeding and swallowing
Stuttering
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a therapy rooted in the science of learning and behavior. Using principles of ABA, children and adults can learn to improve their communication skills, social skills, and daily living skills while also addressing problematic or challenging behaviors. The primary goal of ABA therapy is to teach helpful skills that promote independence and reduce harmful behaviors. Here's our complete guide to everything you need to know about ABA therapy.
It's a big decision to make for your family! Applied behavior analysis (ABA) seeks to improve communication skills, introduce productive habits, and reduce harmful behaviors. Watch out for ABA providers who look to "cure" autism.
High quality ABA therapy does exist where the goal is not to “fix” children, make them appear “less autistic”, or change who they are. The goal is to help people learn all that they can so they can live to their potential while embracing their unique, individual personality traits. Here's our complete guide to start and end ABA therapy.
ABA is usually covered by insurance if you have an autism diagnosis. Autism is typically the only diagnosis insurance will authorize for ABA services since its benefits have been researched extensively.
Always check with your specific insurance plan to confirm that ABA is covered for your child’s diagnoses and that the provider you are seeking care at is in-network. Here's our complete guide to everything you need to know about ABA therapy.
“Early Intervention” might be the provider’s way of describing services that they provide to babies or young children. However, it might also indicate that the provider is a vendor for your state’s publicly funded program. This means the services with this provider might be covered by your state!
The first step in accessing these free services from your state is to get an evaluation. The evaluation will help the state determine what services your child qualifies for, if any. You can find your state’s local EI program by clicking here.
When you contact your local center, say “I have concerns about my child’s development and I would like to have my child evaluated to find out if they are eligible for early intervention services.” They will ask screening questions and arrange for an evaluation, which is provided for free.
The occupational therapy process includes an OT evaluation before care starts. Here are the four steps your family can expect when starting occupational therapy:
Complete OT evaluation. An occupational therapist first identifies your child’s strengths and needs through a thorough OT evaluation, also known as an OT assessment or screening. You’ll answer questions about your child’s skills, and your child will most likely demonstrate their skills via hands-on activities with the therapist. Evaluations can last 30 minutes to a few hours.
Approve OT plan. The therapist develops a care plan with individualized goals and customized interventions based on your child’s needs. You can also share any specific goals or concerns before approving the OT plan.
Start therapy sessions. The therapist works directly with your child and your family, using various strategies and exercises to systematically improve areas of limitations and to build upon a child’s strengths. Some exercises your child might participate in are animal walks, obstacle courses, and therapy swing activities. Your family may learn strategies for supporting your child’s individualized needs at home, such as ways of supporting emotional regulation and sensory processing. The therapist may also recommend tools and techniques to use at home, in the community, or in the classroom to help your child succeed.
Monitor your child’s progress. Parents and caregivers can expect ongoing progress monitoring and communication to ensure the child is achieving their short and long-term goals.
