I was treated very badly. I was made to feel less than human. Once I was called to the back I was put in room left there with a fever coughing and urinating on myself. No one came to check on me until a doctor finally came in to talk to me I was awakened told I had influenza A I was being prescribed cough medicine. I had to ask for an inhaler. I was never asked if I had any other health conditions. I didnt get the proper medical attention I needed. When it was time to go I was being rushed out the door. I was trying to muster up enough strength to stand up pick up my shoe to try to get it on. A female employee 1 who told me I had been discharged saw me without my shoe asked me if I needed it. When I said yes she kicked it to me. I couldnt believe it I wish my medical treatment wouldve been as swift as them trying to get me out of there I was there alone feverish discombobulated trying to get my shoe on and was told 3 different times by 3 different people that I had been discharged so I needed to leave. They said they needed the room for other patients. There was 1 patient waiting in the lobby. There was definitely NO RUSH or no need for the room Very disappointed. I will NEVER return there even if my life depended on it. I will be sure EVERYONE from my family school church and community know of the HORRIBLE DEGRADING way I was treatedBTW Im currently studying towards my degree in Social Work to become a Hospital Social Worker. What are the odds

I went to Banner ER and was not satisfied with my patient care. My vitals were high and the Nurse told me to go sit back down even though my BP was 20095 and HR was 105. Then the EKG tech came to assess me. I was having a panic attack and couldnt stop shaking. She was rushing me and telling me stories of her family member being a RN like me and how much her sister cries after each shift. This did not calm me down at all. Then I was assigned a room with my Nurse Danielle. She didnt even introduce herself. I asked there from 3-8pm and asked for food and water several times with no answers. The Dr came in and didnt introduce himself. He was rushed and asked why I was there. He didnt seem to concerned about my problems. I feel like the patient care overall was horrible and I will choose a different ER next time.

I was in a car accident told triage where my pain was. I was told to tell them the area that hurt the most because they cant treat it all. I then waited in the waiting room for 1 hour. Once brought back to the sitting area i was rold they are waiting on my x-ray results to come back. After two more hours of waiting. O was not seen by a nurse or doctor to see how i was doing or of i was in any pain. All patients around me were brought on after me and was seen multiple times bu the nurse or doctor. O was nor even offered ibuprofen for pain. I do not recommend banner to anyone. The only person that saw me was registration so that they can get paid.

After being referred to the Er from Urgent care we arrived last night and ended up sitting around for over 4 hrs. From our cubicle in the ER we had to listen to ER personnel talking very loud about everyday things going on in their lives. Very loud laughter joking around and profanity including several F bombs in an ER full of sick or hurt people. Unbelievable how unprofessional the staff was. Not at all like the ERs weve been to in the past. After X-rays and a wait in the lobby we were taken to a cubicle where they started an IV in my wifes arm just in case she needed it. A ER full of people and we were told that they had no provider for the patients. After several hours the doctor finally arrived. When he came to our cubicle he quite visibly showed his irritation for having to be there. He was just plain crabby and didnt really care who knew it. Total time there was 5 hrs and never saw a doctor the first four hours we were there. The experience was definitely a once and done for us. There are too many professionally run ERs in the area to ever go through that again.

Over the phone customer service support not very helpful and the tone they have when talking to a customer or patients is terrible. Some of the members have a i can careless attitude the bedside manners are in the garbage . This institution needs to treat not just one customer but all customers with empathy. Its bad when you have to commute to another medical institution when you live next to one. You folks signed on for this career you need to show some compassion and Respect Or move on.

Complete waste of time and money. I waited 6 12 hours for absolutely nothing. Its ridiculous that I was met with the most condescending comments regarding my pain after being told to go to the ER by my OBGYN. The nurse practitioner who was supposed to be helping me was the rudest Healthcare professional I have ever encountered. She does not need to be working in an emergency room. The lack of urgency and the lack of trying to understand her patient is beyond concerning. It is unfortunate because the majority of the staff that I engaged with were kind and understanding.

After a 15 day stay you realize a few things 1. The Nursing staff and care team are fantastic. 2. The cafeteria is okay. Not bad not great 3. My wife and I understand that the admin and side is slow but were talking painfully slow. Currently at 5 hours waiting after the Dr came in to tell us were going home. Ive already picked up all our Rxs and have tha car loaded. They even had to arrange for a dinner tray. They didnt send one because we should have been gone.

Our daughter was just born here and we had such a great experience Everyone was so kind and supportive. Honestly too many nurses and Drs to list and thank. We were able to request one of the new rooms and were so comfortable. My only suggestions would be to make sure to set up room service asap and order what you want their automatic selections were not the best but thats on me. If I had to nitpick bring your own toilet paper theirs is not great lol.

Nurses in the Observation area are not only unprofessional but dishonest. After surgery the nurse removed my iv bag stating it was disgusting. She never returned to replace my iv fluids after surgery as prescribed by my Dr. The shift changed and the new nurse came to give me meds in your iv and I stated I didnt have an iv bag and her face dropped in shock. When I explained to her what happened she said nurse looks like shes had a bad day. 5 hours after the bag was removed she gave me an iv bag. I had my 2 ADULT children and a friend with me during all this. I filed a complaint with the hospital and neither nurse told the truth abt what happened. Even received a letter from the CEO stating I was given in fluids at noon and eight pm. Omitting entirely that I was without fluids from 3-8. Fluids intended to help clear the anesthesia and help keep me hydrated and start healing gone for 5 hours. Nurses covering up mistakes.Shameful

Frequently Asked Questions
Speech therapy is almost always recommended for autistic children since many people with autism have difficulty with social communication. Even if a child is very verbal and says a lot of words, they might need to work on communication skills like:
responding to questions
starting or ending conversation
changing conversation topics
using gestures like pointing
understanding other people's body language
Speech therapy is a big focus in early intervention for autistic children and is usually the starting place for recently diagnosed kids. There is a critical period in the brain for language development and so, it's really important to teach language and communication skills as early as possible, especially if there are any delays in that area. Your child will learn effective ways to communicate which will help them grow into more independent and confident individuals.
It might be obvious when a child struggles with speaking —they are very quiet, say only a few words, or don't speak at all.
Spot speech and language delays like a doctor here.
The goal of speech therapy is to help your child communicate effectively with other people across all environments. This may take the form of using gestures, simple signs, verbal speech, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
Some other common things speech therapists can help with:
Nonverbal skills, such as signs or gestures
Forming speech in a clearer way
Communicating thoughts and feelings clearly
Understanding and responding to questions
Discerning facial expressions and their corresponding emotions
Noticing and understanding body language
Feeding and swallowing
Stuttering
The occupational therapy process includes an OT evaluation before care starts. Here are the four steps your family can expect when starting occupational therapy:
Complete OT evaluation. An occupational therapist first identifies your child’s strengths and needs through a thorough OT evaluation, also known as an OT assessment or screening. You’ll answer questions about your child’s skills, and your child will most likely demonstrate their skills via hands-on activities with the therapist. Evaluations can last 30 minutes to a few hours.
Approve OT plan. The therapist develops a care plan with individualized goals and customized interventions based on your child’s needs. You can also share any specific goals or concerns before approving the OT plan.
Start therapy sessions. The therapist works directly with your child and your family, using various strategies and exercises to systematically improve areas of limitations and to build upon a child’s strengths. Some exercises your child might participate in are animal walks, obstacle courses, and therapy swing activities. Your family may learn strategies for supporting your child’s individualized needs at home, such as ways of supporting emotional regulation and sensory processing. The therapist may also recommend tools and techniques to use at home, in the community, or in the classroom to help your child succeed.
Monitor your child’s progress. Parents and caregivers can expect ongoing progress monitoring and communication to ensure the child is achieving their short and long-term goals.
Occupational therapy can also be provided virtually via telemedicine. Virtual therapy is a great option for families in rural areas who may not have access to in-person services, or for families who prefer to have therapy in their child’s home.
Virtual OT allows the opportunity for increased caregiver participation and understanding of a child’s strengths, areas of improvement, and generalization of skills in the child’s home environment. Virtual therapy also provides increased opportunities for caregiver and family education to support the child and the family based on each family’s needs.
Yes, picky and selective eating is actually a quite common concern for children with autism. If you rolled your eyes looking at the steps above because your child with autism has never had a full day's serving of vegetables in their life, you are definitely not alone. As if getting kids to eat their veggies isn’t challenging enough, research shows children with autism have significantly more eating challenges than their peers who are not autistic.
In addition to sensory difficulties that can lead to a lot of anxiety with food, autistic children are 4x more likely to have gastrointestinal issues such as stomach pain and discomfort. This creates the perfect storm for extra extra picky eaters - and a lot of added obstacles and concerns for parents.
The difficulties associated with autistic children and food can cause a wide range of concerns from children being underweight to overweight (overweight children can still be at risk for nutritional deficiencies!). This can lead to slower than normal growth and nutritional deficiencies like low vitamin D and calcium levels. Even when given multivitamins, many children with autism are still found to have some of these nutritional deficiencies.
Here are some tips:
Keep to a schedule - setting schedules for meal and snack time can help picky eaters build up their appetite throughout the day
Minimize distractions - removing distractions like screens and toys can help your child be more engaged at mealtime
Approach new foods together - Make new foods less scary by trying them together. Touching and smelling the food together before tasting it
Support choice & control - Allowing your child to pick which foods they eat will help them feel more in control
It may not seem obvious, but eating is a complex behavior that involves perceptual, emotional, and cognitive processes. And we know that children with autism process things differently. While many of us look forward to things like our afternoon snack, it may be an activity that causes a lot of anxiety for your child.
Parents describe food selectivity being determined by a few of the following factors: texture (69%), appearance (58%), taste (45%), smell (36%), and temperature (22%). Uniform texture, bland and neutral color foods are reported to be overwhelmingly preferred by more than 90% of children with ASD.
A Pediatric Gastroenterologist manages digestive health in children. This field covers the entire gastrointestinal (GI) tract including the hepatobiliary-pancreatic systems (think absorbing nutrients from our food, eliminating waste, etc.) and nutritional disorders (think obesity, malnutrition, etc.).
